General Discussion • A joke for you

Hi friends
Today I want to tell a joke to bring smile on your face

A senior citizen drove his brand new BMW to 100 mph, looking in his rear view mirror , he saw a police car behind him.

He floored it to 140 , then 150, ... then 170, ... Suddenly he thought, "I'm too old for this nonsense !" So he pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police car to catch up with him .

The officer walked up to him, looked at his watch and said, "Sir, my shift ends in ten minutes. Today is Friday and I'm taking off for the weekend. If you can give me a good reason that I've never heard before for why you were speeding. I'll let U go."

The man looked very seriously at the police man, and replied :- "Years ago, my wife ran off with a policeman, I thought you were bringing her back." !!! 😵😁😖😂

The cop left saying, " Have a good day, Sir "😂😂😂😂😂😂

Bye

Help Each Other with English • Re: Is this a mistake or not?

Hello!
I'd like to know what the difference between "he doesn't show his novels anyone" and "he doesn't show his novels to anyone". Is it a mistake not to use the word "to"?
I'd be very grateful.
You can say:
he doesn't show his novels to anyone :ok:
OR
he doesn't show anyone his novels :ok:

Help Each Other with English • Re: Creating a simple sentence

Ted was unable to solve the task despite his best efforts.

(NB I am not sure that you can 'solve' a task. You solve a problem and perform a task,)

The first one is not absolutely do-able because it is not 100% stated that her superior ability caused her to do best in this particular test, but I suggest:

Kirsty's superior intelligence made her come top in the test.

Help Each Other with English • Re: Please guys, do you can help me to show my mistake.

Hello Mhafis.

Let's start with the title. When you ask a question with 'can', don't use 'do you'. After that, you make a mistake in the way you use help. It isn't necessary. I suggest:

'Can you show me my mistakes?' - keep it simple!

I was born at Indonesia. I was born in Indonesia

Indonesia is a most beautiful country. It is possible to use 'most' here, but I think you mean 'very'.

Indonesia have many island
Don't repeat 'Indonesia'. Use a singular verb. There are many islands. Say 'It has many islands.'

almost 17.000 island in my country. You are telling us more about the islands and going into detail, so say 'in fact there are almost 17 000. There is no need to repeat 'islands' and we know it is your country.

Indonesia have many unique things. Indonesia has ....

I have to tell you Guys about it. No capital letter on 'guys' . Do you mean 'about them'? You said 'thngs'.

Every part of Indonesia have unique things like culture.
You have to stop repeating the same word all the time.Try something completely different like 'There are unique cultural features everywhere'.

Batik is one of culture in Indonesia. One of these is Batik.

Batik is a name to call a fabric have a unique pattern. This is a fabric with a singular pattern.

Many public figures like wear batik, also Nelson Mandela.
Many pulic figures, like Nelson Mandela, wear it.

He start like batik when he visited Indonesia in 1997. This started when he visited the country in 1997.

Batik have many unique pattern, every place in Indonesia have unique pattern. It can be found in many patterns and each region has its own.

Not just on that. Indonesia also have many destination, which can make you love it
Like Bali Island. Everybody must know about Bali Island. Bali have a beautiful beach. Many turisme came to Bali for holiday.

That is not all. There are many destinations, like the island of Bali and its beautiful beach, to which many tourists come every year, to make you fall in love with the place.

General Discussion • Re: Advancing my career in ESL teaching

If you wold like to stay in the University sector, a Masters will eventually be necessary. It seems that you have already hit a ceiling. My suggestion would be to do a Cert and get a grounding, but a Dip tends (this is contentious, others may disagree) to root you in the low-paying private school circuit where you can see the world, be professional and not even dream of getting a mortgage. A Masters can lift you over that. (A very personal opinion)

General Discussion • Re: Teaching English to Chinese Students

My experience is the opposite. I have always found Chinese students to be respectful and hard working. The difficulty I have had is trying to get them to think outside the box a little, but that is another issue. Who are your students and what is your role in the school? Do you have any scope to develop lessons or do you have to follow a set text or syllabus?

Grammar Help • Re: Compound Possessive with pronoun

But when a pronoun is used, which is correct?

Brad and my car is in the garage. OR Brad's and my car is in the garage.

The latter.

And if Brad and I each have our own car (two cars), is this correct?

Brad's and my cars are in the garage.

Yes, although you could have more than one car each. To specify only one each:
Brad's car and my car are in the garage.
