Bill Hutchison, Chair of i-CANADA, is pleased to welcome the new President of Schneider Electric Canada, Juan Macias, to the Governors Council of the organization.
“We are glad that Juan’s experience with Digital Energy Management will be available to help guide our discussions,” stated Mr. Hutchison. “Smart Communities need a range of solutions, and Schneider Electric is able to look across the silos and tell the community what their opportunities are as an entity. Juan has led the development of solutions in power transmission and distribution, and has the background to make them happen. This is a real asset to i-CANADA.”
i-CANADA’s Governors Council is a leadership forum of 70 CEOs from major corporations, plus Mayors and opinion-leaders, who are united in the drive to make Canada a nation of Smart Cities, where intelligent technologies provide citizens with high economic development, a sustainable environment, job growth and social prosperity.
“The speed of urban change is incredible: our society took 4,000 years to develop the urban capacity available today, yet we will need to double that in the next 40 years,” observed Mr. Macias. “Here is the hard equation we need to solve in the coming years: in the next 16 years: electricity demand across the planet will double, while at the same time, if we are to avoid drastic climatic change, we need to cut our CO2 emissions in half. The upshot is that we need to increase our energy efficiency by a factor of four. We are not on track to doing that. On top of this uber-challenge, cities have to cope with expansion, congestion, employment, security, health and infrastructure costs. The “Smart Community” is the only way out.”
Mr. Macias comes to Schneider Electric Canada from GE’s Digital Energy business, where he was General Manager of Grid Automation.
“Only by becoming Smarter, are cities going to thrive; to enjoy efficiency, sustainability, and liveability,” said Mr. Hutchison. “Schneider Electric has strength in making cities sustainable -- to connecting the separate systems like the electricity grid, gas distribution system, water distribution system, transportation, commercial buildings, and so on. What Schneider Electric does, is optimize integration capabilities, through interconnected and interoperable products, systems, services and software, to drive efficiency.
“We are delighted to have a leader of Juan’s depth engaged in our process.”
Schneider Electric Canada’s former President Daniel Peloquin will remain on the Governors Council, where his expertise in Smart Communities can continue to serve the country.
