GRIESBACH MINOR SOCCER AND MINIS PROGRAM

Registration Dates and IMPORTANT changes.

September 1st, 9th and 15th, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm Major General Griesbach School

Get ready all you future Christine Sinclairs and David Beckhams. Three registration dates have been announced for Griesbach Minor Soccer and the highly popular Griesbach Minis Program for children aged four and under. (b. 2012-2013). Both programs continue to grow, so we encourage you to register early.

There are two important changes you need to be aware of BEFORE attending this year’s soccer registration.
  1. Mandatory EMSA Online PRE-Registration at emsanorth.com/play/register: Edmonton Minor Soccer Association North now requires all players go online and create an account (one per family), and fill out a registration form for each child who will play. TWO COPIES MUST BE PRINTED then brought with you to one of Griesbach’s three registration events.
  2. Mandatory Age Verification: Also, parents must bring one of the following pieces of identification for each child to verify age: Birth Certificate, Alberta Health Care Card or Passport.
In addition, you will need to do the following at the registration:
  • Show a valid 2015/2016 Community League Membership (we’ll be selling for $25/household).
  • Provide three cheques to cover: registration fee, jersey deposit, volunteer commitment deposit.
  • Sign up for a volunteer commitment (first-come, first serve basis).

Griesbach SHAKE at the LAKE & Art Walk is back.

Saturday, Sept. 26, 1 pm to 6 pm
Perron Berger Park (Pegasus Blvd.)

Twice the balloon makers and face painters! More of Edmonton’s most touted artists! More bounce in our castles. Mouth watering food trucks. A beer garden buzzing with live music!!! The Griesbach Shake at the Lake just keeps getting bigger and better.

This year marks the return of the AMAZING RACE for kids aged 8 to 14). Visit griesbachcommunity.com for details and sign-up info after Labour Day.

If you know any local artists who may be interested in participating, have them contact griesbachgardensdirector@gmail.com. All art will be available for purchase.

Bring your 2015/16 Community Membership card!

Because The Shake attracts many people from outside of the community, this year we have decided to make all activities FREE for Griesbach Community League members – and charge a modest fee of $5/child or $10/family for non-members.

It’s our way of thanking those who support GCL and the activities we offer.  An annual membership is only $25/family, and will be available at the event.

We hope you can come and shake it up with us on the 26th!

Griesbach: It’s time to renew those Community Memberships

2015/2016 Griesbach Community League Memberships are now available for the low cost of $25/household.

This year, members will receive free access to all children’s activities at the Shake at the Lake. Members also receive skate tags, which allow you to use outdoor rinks throughout the city.

Get yours at any of our soccer registrations or at the Shake at the Lake on September 26. For details on benefits – or to buy online – visit griesbachcommunity.com

By purchasing a membership you’re supporting your community and helping us to put on the events and activities that benefit us all and make Griesbach great.

Griesbach News at a Glance

  • School’s back. Please slow down. That means you too, parents! The speed limit in school zones is 30 km/h. Kids and teachers, have an awesome year!
  • Fencing is going up around the commercial site. Land preparation is underway. No news to report on tenants yet, but we’re doing some digging.
  • Paving has started on the site where the old Canada Lands office sat (Stage 12). 30 new homes are slated to go here. Grading has begun on Stage 17 around Ad Astra Blvd.
  • The unseasonable weather did not help efforts to grow grass at Central Park. On the other hand, the thriving Community Gardens is the pride of the community.
  • A spectacular ceremony will celebrate the unveiling of the Ad Astra monument to the RCAF on September 20th.

Spectacular Ceremony to Launch Griesbach Air Force Monument

Sunday, September 20, 2015, 1 pm
McCrae Avenue, Village of Griesbach

There has always been a friendly rivalry between the various branches of our military. Not to be outdone by the navy or army – who have distinctive monuments in Griesbach recognizing their contributions, former members of the RCAF are planning to launch a commemorative monument to the air force in spectacular style.

The Ad Astra monument is a 10-metre-high stainless steel sculpture representing a “star burst” – an aerobatic manoeuvre familiar to many from military air shows. “Ad Astra” is part of the RCAF motto and means “to the stars.” It will be surrounded by granite storyboards.

The monument will be the centre piece of Ad Astra Plaza, a symbolic runway with representations of the legendary Spitfire, the Avro Arrow and the C-130 Hercules. The Hercules was used by Edmonton’s 435 Transport Squadron from the early 1960’s to 1992.  Other plazas around the lake include the Mosquito Dive Bomber Plaza and the Griffon Helicopter Plaza.

There is a rumour that we may be in-store for a rare and special treat: a low level fly-past that could include some of the RCAF’s most awe-inspiring aircraft. How cool would that be?
