Take the 2017 Griesbach
Resident's Survey

Help Griesbach Community League set goals and priorities to make Griesbach even greater!

Griesbach Community League (GCL) was established in 2012 to ensure Griesbach remains one of the most vibrant, engaged and safe communities in Edmonton by representing the needs and interests of Griesbach residents. We do this by hosting social events, coordinating community sport programs, advocating on civic and community development matters and much more.

We have created this community survey to learn more about the interests, concerns and priorities of residents – and set new goals for the GCL Board of Directors. Your feedback is important!

There are 22 questions, and it takes 10 minutes to complete. All responses will be kept completely confidential. If you wish to provide a name or email at the end of the survey, you will be entered in a draw for Five $100 Gift Certificates from local businesses, including: Shoppers Drug Mart, Mt Fuji and The Crown & Anchor Pub.

Please note, the comment sections are optional.

Thanks for your input. Your involvement helps keep our community great!

Griesbach Playground receives Canada 150 Funding Grant

In 2017, Canada will be celebrating its 150th birthday. To mark the occasion, the Government of Canada invited organizations from coast to coast to apply for a grant to honour this milestone through the development of community improvement projects.

Griesbach’s yet to be named Playground and Park was one of 20 Edmonton projects selected to share in $3 million worth of grant money. $235,428 was allocated to Griesbach’s playground, which is slated for construction this spring.

“The Government of Canada recognizes that cultural and recreational activities bring communities together and contribute to our overall health and well-being,” Infrastructure Minister Amarjeet Sohi said.

“The renewed facilities and programs not only respond to the demand for community infrastructure improvements, but also provide us an opportunity to celebrate the people of this great country.”

After five years of efforts, including City, Provincial and Federal grants, fundraising and sponsorships, the playground is now fully funded. The Canada 150 Grant will allow the Griesbach Playground Committee to explore upgrades to the park infrastructure. A more robust gazebo and enhanced landscaping are just two of the ideas on the table.

“We were extremely honoured to learn our project was selected from the many worthwhile applications,” said Brad Tilley of the Griesbach Playground Fundraising Committee.

Children and parents alike are looking forward to the opening of this playground, which will be accessible to children at the rapidly growing Major General Griesbach School. The Griesbach Playground  Committee has worked with the City of Edmonton to plan the biggest and highest quality playground permitted. In addition to a variety of fun equipment for children of all ages, the park will include bike  bumps, public seating and a ring of maple trees – which is entirely fitting for a park that will help recognize Canada’s 150th birthday.

WHY PARTICIPATE IN OUR COMMUNITY SURVEY?
BECAUSE IT LEADS TO REAL RESULTS!

Five years ago GCL asked residents to take a community survey. Your feedback was invaluable - and helped us establish priorities. Here are just a few of the successful initiatives that resulted from your input:

1. A new playground accessible by students at MGG School

After 5 years of hard work, all funding is finally in place for our fully designed playground – with construction expected to begin Spring 2017.

2. Community sports programs for our kids

(Griesbach now boasts one of the fastest growing programs in Edmonton, with indoor and outdoor programs. We also launched Griesbach Minis (for kids 6 and under) and an Introduction To Baseball program.

3. Awesome social events

You said you wanted a chance to meet neighbours. We responded by introducing The Shake at the Lake and Spring Fling.

 4. Ongoing advocacy

2012 Survey respondents stress the importance of working with the City and Canada Lands to speak on behalf of residents on issues that affect those living in Griesbach. We've been actively involved with both.

What's next for Griesbach? You tell us.
