How many Trick or Treaters can you expect in Griesbach?
See the results of our informal poll
One of the most frequent questions we get from new residents is, "How much candy should I buy for Halloween?" While many kids go to the mall these days, Griesbach seems to offer proof that the tradition of ringing doorbells and going house to house yelling "trick or treat" is alive and well.
To help, we did an informal poll on Facebook. Note: these are based on last year's numbers, and the community is growing, so better be safe than sorry and stock up.
East Griesbach:
It seems the busiest street by far is Griesbach School Road, where they regularly get 250 to 300 kids!
We had numerous estimates of between 150 - 200 kids on 144th Avenue, Decouteau and Valour. Residents on Kerr, Kinross and Gault reported close to 150.
West Griesbach:
Residents on Cyprus told us they had 120 to 150 Halloweeners. On San Fortunato it was 120. Estimates varied in the SW corner. On Dewolf it ranged between 50 and 100 – but with construction winding down, expect those numbers to rise.
North West Griesbach and Rentals:
We didn't get any feedback on these areas. If you live in the rental area or the new Northwest corner, we encourage you to post on our Facebook page.
Have a safe and happy Halloween!
In terms of timing, some kids are out as early as 5:30. For the most part, things seem to quiet down at 8:00 pm.
We hope you found that helpful. Don't forget, watch for children if you're driving and keep steps clear of items kids could trip on. Have a safe and happy Halloween!

New restaurants announced for Commercial Development
Brentwood Developments has announced a number of new quick service restaurant tenants will be coming to Griesbach Square. They have informed us that Tim Hortons, Popeye's Chicken and Carl's Jr. will all be moving in.
Shoppers Drug Mart is scheduled to open on November 24th, with a grand opening celebration to take place on Saturday, November 26th. This location will feature Shoppers' Food Essentials offering, which has a surprising selection of everyday food items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Shoppers is moving here from their current location next to Rosslyn Inn and Suites. They have been a big supporter of GCL fundraising efforts in the past and we look forward to having them as our immediate neighbours.
Previously announced tenants include Mt. Fuji sushi (currently located in Nameo Centre near 167 St), Good Earth Cafe, Pho Ever, a fitness centre and a nail salon. Last we heard these businesses were to open Spring 2017.
In other development news:
- New traffic lights have been installed at Pegaus Blvd and 137 St. They should make the left turn out of Griesbach much easier. If the lights are flashing yellow, treat it like a yield.
- The City has put up a temporary barrier in front of the old school parking lot near the current playground. This is in response to resident complaints about unwanted activity occurring there in the evenings. We hope this will make our community safer.
- Sadly, a few jerks continue to think it's a good idea to go 4-wheeling on Central Park Hill and in our parks at nighttime. If you hear or see anything, please contact the police so we can curb this dangerous, damaging and disrespectful activity.
- The wet fall weather has hampered construction and slowed grading in areas along the west side of the community (Stages 19,20, 21). Residents are reminded to keep out of the fenced areas. A new temporary road has been built so that construction vehicles can avoid driving on residential streets.
- It is still hoped Griesbach Road will be open late November/ early December.
- Construction has resumed on the Neptune Townhomes on Gault Blvd. – a sister project to the Junos. Two new 4-story residential buildings are underway along Griesbach Parade by the Marriott Hotel. One is slated for mixed use commercial and residential.
- Building continues in Stage 16 and 17 (NW corner). A new showhome for Stage 17 will be unveiled this spring.
