Monthly News Letter
August 2018

Message from President
Laurie Kuntz

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the ALA Department of Colorado Newsletter.  Each month we hope to highlight a different committee and the work they are doing on behalf of our organization.  In addition, we have invited all committee chairmen to submit a piece to the newsletter to keep us all up to date on what they and their committee are doing.  And of course, we welcome any member to submit a piece to the newsletter, just work through your committee chair to do so.
We’ve been working hard to get things in place for the coming year.  Some key things coming up the next few weeks.
Fall Conferences are being scheduled and as the times and places are confirmed we’re adding them to/updating them on the
webpage calendarIt also means we are putting together fall packets and we need information from each committee.  Please make sure to add something that will be of value to our members.  This would include things like the membership contest information, the fundraising mid-year event, giving the gift of membership, scholarship information and deadlines – anything that will help members successfully support department projects/activities.
National President Visit:  Plans are underway.  She will be here from September 14th through September 18th.  On the 14th there will be a Friday Night dinner at Post 1985 in Firestone, Saturday we will attend the All Activities day in Pueblo, then the evening is the
Miracle Party, a Children and Youth supported event for kids with cancer, at the Douglas County Event Center in Castle Rock.  Sunday will be the Colorado’s Women Veterans Summit at Post 38 in Fountain. Monday includes a visit of the VA.  We are looking for posts to host dinner on Sunday after the Summit and on Monday after the days activities in Denver.  Tuesday activities are subject to her departure time.  Please join us at any/all of these activities.  We hope to show strong support from our entire Legion Family

Information about this newsletter is available on our
website and Facebook page.  Hope you take a few minutes to read it each month or even better, submit an article to share with other members around the state.
Thank you for your PASSION!!

Committee of the Month:  Leadership
Dee Chappell-Haley, Chairman 2018-19

Hello ladies,
I’m honored to be serving as your leadership chairman for the 2018-19 year and I’m excited for President Laurie’s year! Leadership encompasses so much of what we do to support our mission. Understanding and appreciating the value of leadership and the direct and lasting impact it has on our members and programs is so important. Strong, knowledgeable leadership supports growth and longevity and supports member involvement. Experienced leadership enhances the meeting and activity experience and ensures that all members benefit when proper conduct of business, knowledge of programs and our mission are applied. Leadership lessons can fuel our passions and our desire to support veterans, community and youth. Please take the time to honestly consider and evaluate how and if these ideals could benefit your Unit. Please contact me or any member of the Leadership committee to request leadership assistance or targeted training custom designed for your members.  You can reach any of us from the Leadership Committee web page.  Auxiliary Back to the Basics is an excellent place to begin your journey (also available on the Leadership Committee web page). I hope to hear from you soon.
Committee Highlights

Membership Committee
Evelyn Espinola, Chairman 2018-19
Membership is the lifeblood of our organization and for good reason – it represents professionals who establish standards and ethics in a given organization.
That’s why each year, our ALA National Officers are tasked with one very special goal: TO INCREASE MEMBERSHIPS!  If our organization membership numbers have been flat or, if even worse, you are losing members, you may need some fresh ideas to pump up your numbers.

As your Membership Chair, I've pulled together a few simple ideas that are easy to implement and will help to get your creative juices pumping during your next strategy session.  Click
here to download and read the entire document.  Or better yet, visit my Membership web page for even more information.  Have a question, need help with membership or just want to share - send a message right from the Membership web page.  I look forward to hearing from you!

PR Committee - Social Media
We have been working diligently to update the ALA Department of Colorado web page for President Laurie's activities and committees.  Each committee chairman now has her own web page.  Each page has been set up with the basics about her committee including links to related materials on the national web page.  Now we are just waiting for each chairman to customize her page .  I hope you will take a minute and check out the Committees and Chairmen page.  We have set up many ways to contact the chairmen and the webmaster - please take full advantage of them, we are always excited to hear from our members.

Are you a chairman and not sure what you need for your web page.  The Chairman's Web form will help.  Click here to download the form or you can find it on the
Committees and Chairmen page.  Also available on the Committees and Chairmen is a How To Guide for chairmen - all the basics to use your web page and submit articles for the newsletter.
