Group Conversations about Grief

There are many in our community who are grieving recent losses, and the Body of Christ is grieving two deaths that we experienced last week. Because of the unexpected nature of one of these deaths, some in our community may need time to process our feelings and reflect with others.

To help us reflect authentically and intentionally as a community, we have scheduled an opportunity for a group conversation. It will be facilitated by two professionals who are also members of our community -- Dr. Leah Thomas and the Rev. Megan Malick. We encourage you to come to the meeting this Sunday morning. As we assess the needs of our community, more opportunities may be scheduled. We hope that you will take advantage of this process for communal reflection.
Sunday, 27 January, Phillips Room
9:30 -- facilitated conversation begins
To create a safe and conducive environment for conversation, all who desire to attend are expected to arrive promptly.

This is an exploration of a "credible Jesus for the third millennium." Please contact Diane Koon if you would like more information.

What is the Jane Addams Fund?
Wisdom's Table is a diverse congregation in many ways and one of those is socio-economic. We have seen and increasing amount of need among our members and friends who live on the economic edge. We believe that as a congregation that is focused on Social and Environmental Justice, we should respond to those among us who are facing financial need in part because of social justice issues. As such we are collecting funds on a quarterly basis that will be disbursed to those members and friends in need.

As a member or Friend of Wisdom's Table you are eligible to apply for the Jane Addams Fund.
Applications for funds are available in the bin above the mailboxes outside the office or from a pastor. Please return the completed application to Parish Administrator, Pam Kilgore's mailbox or to a pastor. The Professional Leadership Team (Pastor Anabel, Pastor Lance, and Pam)  will review and make decisions about each application received based on need and funds available.

Scripture Reading for the

upcoming Sunday

As you pray throughout the week, consider reflecting upon our Sunday readings.
The scriptures for January 27th,
Time After Epiphany
3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
1 Corinthians 12:12-27
and Luke 4:14-21
This Sunday, January 27th we will be honored by The Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington sharing the Word.

Rev. Dr. Washington has been in “the church” all of his life.  He started in the United Methodist Church and has served in the Baptist Church, Church of God In Christ (COGIC), AME, Apostolic, Fire Baptized Holiness and Non-Denominational Churches for over 50 years. This year marks 46 years of service in Music Ministry.

He has received many awards both in and outside of the church for his leadership and commitment to the Ministry of Social Justice.

He loves all of humanity and believes he has been called to help heal the planet.  He identifies as a Born-again believer and welcomes the opportunity to engage others in deconstructing and reframing what that means.  He lives by the words of his favorite song.
If I can help somebody as I Pass along
If I can cheer somebody with a word or song
If I can show somebody that he/she, Zi or they have traveled wrong
Then my Living Shall Not BE in Vain

Jamie is invested in working with organizations to build capacity for greater inclusion and effectiveness. He works with campus leaders, staff, faculty and students to create a culture that values, respects and includes all of its members, while helping organizations and campuses address the historical and residual impacts of exclusion. Leadership, Change Management and Social Justice Issues are at the core of his work.

Thank you to the Kitchen "Fairies" for making everything perfect for our upcoming events.
