BAKE SALE DURING ELECTION DAY

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2018

7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Women’s Fellowship is sponsoring a Bake Sales during Election Day on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 7 a.m. (when the polls open) until 8 p.m. (when the polls close – unless we are sold out earlier).

We need your help in providing baked goods to fill our tables with goodies for the Election Day Bake Sale. A good turn out is anticipated!  Some suggested items are listed below:

·         Cookies – chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal and sugar cookies are some favorites, but any kind is acceptable

·         Bar Cookies

·         Cupcakes

·         Brownies

·         Rice Krispies Bars

·         Whoppie Pies – all kinds (very popular at our Bake Sales)

·         Candy

·         Pretzel rods (dipped in icing – very popular)

·         All kinds of homemade Bread (small ones sell well).

·         Muffins

·         Any other type of goodie you love to make!

Note:  All baked goods should be individual items or 2 or 4 to a baggie.  No whole cakes or pies.  We suggest goodies that you have baked or items from a bakery.

Treats may be brought to the church on Sunday, November 4th, Monday, November 5th (from 1-3 p.m. when we will be setting up for the bake sale in the Narthex) or the day of the sale as early as possible.  It would be helpful if you can package your baked goods in baggies (2 or 4 to a bag depending on size) or wrapped in saran wrap (individually or 2 to 4 per package depending on size).  Women’s Fellowship will price all items.

We will also need a few volunteers to take a 2-hour shift during the hours of the bake sale during the Primary Election.  A sign-up sheet  for the Bake Sale will be available on Sunday, October 14th during Fellowship Hour.

If you have any questions, please phone or email Carole Muise – 717-898-2280 or cnmfriend@aol.com.

Thanks for your help in making this a successful fundraiser for Wisdom’s Table.

Mark Your Calendars – Annual Congregational Meeting & Potluck
Sunday, November 11 – following our 11:00 am worship

On November 11th, we celebrate the Rite of Membership with our new members and join together in our annual congregational meeting. At the meeting, we will share in a potluck lunch (please bring a dish!), receive our annual reports from church leaders, approve our operating budget for 2019 and elect folks for our Consistory, Nominating Committee and Lay Delegates!

If you are a member of our congregation, participating in this meeting is an important way you fulfill your membership promise to “participate in the life and business of this community. “ We need your voice! If you are not a member of our church, you’re more than welcome to join in the conversation, too!

JANE ADDAMS FUND

What is the Jane Addams Fund?
Wisdom's Table is a diverse congregation in many ways and one of those is socio-economic. We have seen and increasing amount of need among our members and friends who live on the economic edge. We believe that as a congregation that is focused on Social and Environmental Justice, we should respond to those among us who are facing financial need in part because of social justice issues. As such we are collecting funds on a quarterly basis that will be disbursed to those members and friends in need.

As a member or Friend of Wisdom's Table you are eligible to apply for the Jane Addams Fund.
Applications for funds are available in the bin above the mailboxes outside the office or from a pastor. Please return the completed application to Parish Administrator, Pam Kilgore's mailbox or to a pastor. The Professional Leadership Team (Pastor Anabel, Pastor Lance, and Pam)  will review and make decisions about each application received based on need and funds available.
If you would like an electronic copy of our Church Directory, please reply to this e-mail to request one
If you have a change of address, phone or email, please let Parish Administrator Pam Kilgore know so that we can keep our records up to date. Reply to this e-mail to contact Pam. Thank you!

Are you looking for a place to have more discussions about your faith journey?  The Wisdom's Table Book Group, meet at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday's at Panera Bread on Rohrerstown Road.

The group will be starting a new book on October 17th.  The book is "Waking us White"...and finding myself in the story of race by Debby Irving.
All are welcome to attend this lively discussion.

Scripture Reading for the

upcoming Sunday

As you pray throughout the week, consider reflecting upon our Sunday readings.
The scriptures for October 14th, Twentieth-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

:            Amos 5:6-7, 10-15  and Mark 10: 17-31
Our Mission Project for October is
Heifer International

"We believe that the collective power of economic development, food security and nutrition, and environmental sustainability can empower small-scale farmers on the path to living incomes.  When those components are multiplied by the positive impacts of gender equality and social capital, communities achieve greater resilience and a sustainable reduction in hunger and poverty."

This month we will be collecting funds to purchase goats.  Please support this mission project by placing your donation in the designated envelope.

We are observing the month
of October as a Season of Creation.  There is a garden, lovingly prepared by our Liturgical Arts Ministry Team, in front of the altar in our sanctuary. Before worship, from 10:45 – 11:00 am, any who desire may gather around the garden.

You are invited to go up and sit (on the floor or in one of the pews) in the chancel area. You can touch the soil and/or light a candle. As you do, you may offer prayers of blessing for the earth or express contrition for humankind’s bad stewardship of the earth or renew your personal commitment to care for our besieged and beautiful creation.

Celtic spirituality sees… “the goodness of earth and the belief that God’s dwelling-place is deep within creation.  So to look to God is not to look away from life but to look more deeply into it.  Together with its emphasis on the presence of God at the heart of creation, of God being the heartbeat of life, there is also a sense of the closeness, the personal immediacy of God to us, a closeness not only of God but the whole host of heaven, enfolding the earth and its people with love.” - J. Philip Newell

“God is the Life of the world and not merely some religious aspect of it.” - J. Philip Newell

Enter in and listen deeply to the heartbeat of God.

Halloween is soon here!  We are collecting candy to hand out on Halloween Night, October 31st.  Please bring your candy and drop it in the tub in the Narthex by Sunday, October 28th.  For a list of certified chocolate companies please go to the link below.
