Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
As Kappa Alpha Theta celebrates its 25th year of partnership with CASA this year, it is the goal of the 2016 Louisville Theta Alumnae Chapter board to become more engaged with our local chapter - CASA of the River Region. In an effort to do this, we will not only be sharing upcoming events with our members, but we would also like to see how you may want to become more involved. Below you will find a link to take a brief survey that will be discussed more at our upcoming potluck event (event details below).

CASA of the River Region has been serving abused and neglected children in greater Louisville for over 30 years. This year, CASA hopes to increase community engagement and awareness to close the gap between children waiting for a CASA and children served. To reach the vision of pairing every child with a trained CASA volunteer, help is needed to spread the word. If you are interested in helping or learning more, please take this survey. For questions about volunteering, contact Amanda@casarr.org or for events and donations, contact Amabelle@casarr.org.

Message From Our Treasurer
We are now well into our 2016 fiscal year for Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity and our local chapter. Currently, 54 of our Louisville alums have paid their dues for the year. Thank you to those that have paid! Click here to view the list and check your status. If you have not yet paid your dues, now is the time! Our dues structure is as follows:

Pansy Level = $35.00       Black/Gold Level = $50.00
High Flying Kite = $100.00

$30 goes to the fraternity, and our local chapter keeps the balance. You have a few different options for paying your dues. You may send your check, made payable to Kappa Alpha Theta, to Corinne Williams, Treasurer at 5018 Merton Square, Louisville 40241 or you can bring your payment to the potluck. You may pay your dues online by clicking here. Many of our members are Kappa Alpha Theta Life Loyal members, which means that they have enrolled in the Fraternity’s Life Loyal program to further support Kappa Alpha Theta financially. If you are a Life Loyal Member, you only need to pay $5, $20, or $70 dues to our local chapter, depending on the level you wish to follow.

As always, your dues to our local chapter will support our endeavors to keep Theta alive for our Louisville alums, and allow us to make donations to CASA, Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation, and our Kentucky collegiate chapters. Let’s make 2016 a banner year for dues paying members!

Updates from the Theta Kappa chapter at the University of Louisville from Ashley Hettinger, Alumnae Engagement Director
The Theta Kappa chapter had a successful end to the spring semester, a fun-filled summer, and are looking forward to a fall semester filled with sisterhood, scholarship and service.

In April, the women of Theta Kappa hosted their signature philanthropy event “Theta Pancake Party” and are proud to say that we raised $5,271.00 for CASA of the River Region. A thank you to the alumnae members who supported Theta Kappa in a successful event. Theta Kappa also had members participate in the AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide prevention and awareness, and made Theta proud as they were the top fundraisers with $1,430. As our sisterhood grows, so does our service around campus and in the community. We ended the semester with a sisterhood at the waterfront, our “Under the Twin Stars” formal, and celebrated six of our members as they graduated.

This summer our members have been leading women locally and abroad. Theta Kappa women studied abroad and participated in service projects in Panama, Peru, Chile, Honduras, Italy, and closer to home at Disney World, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, around the community and on campus. Our chapter president Brooke Shutte represented Theta Kappa at Grand Convention and got to meet leading women from chapters near and far. August will be a busy month for Theta Kappa as they participate in their second formal recruitment at the University of Louisville and welcome a new class of members into the chapter. Along with welcoming new members this fall, Theta Kappa is looking forward to a Sisterhood Retreat, Day of Service, Friends and Family Weekend, Initiation, Senior Service and more. We would love to have you attend Senior Service on December 4th, 2016, at 5pm if you are available, please save the date and look for more information closer to December.

As collegiate members at Theta Kappa we would love to get to know more of our Theta sisters, especially those who have similar careers/career goals. We would love to start a pen pal system with alumnae members who can help answer questions and provide advice, as we journey through college and into our chosen professions. With this program, there will not be a requirement of amount of communication, just a way for members to reach out, learn about, and discover new things about their field of study. If you are interested in participating, please complete this google doc (only Thetas who click the link will see the information), or you can contact me directly.

As the Alumnae Engagement Director for Theta Kappa, I look forward to getting to work with, meet and speak with as many of you as possible this semester. If you would like to receive Theta Kappa’s monthly newsletter, participate in any of our upcoming events, or have any questions, I can be reached at ashett01@louisville.edu.

Know a local Theta alumna that is doing impressive work for our community? Email us, we would like to spotlight her in our next newsletter!
