Online Ordering Closed

Our season is over here in northern Wisconsin. Fall color is past peak, we had our first snow flurries yesterday, everything is put away for winter and inventory is taken and updated. You can still view items and pricing on our website, but ordering is closed. If you'd like to place an order before we open online ordering in March, simply email us and we can send an invoice. We'll be finalizing new plant orders for spring '19 and updating the site with new goodies by the end of the year. Requests and suggestions are welcome, it's always hard to guess what people are looking for. As always we hope you find the plants we choose as fun as we do. Thanks for another successful year!

Our first Hosta introduction is set to be released in 2019!  'Because of Art' is an open pollinated seedling of H. yingeri and named for my late dear friend Arthur Degnitz. Art is responsible for my love of Hostas. Really, it’s all his fault! I didn’t particularly like or dislike hostas before working with Art. He headed up the hosta department at the nursery where I would eventually become manager. His excitement and passion for his favorite plants was obviously contagious, he could easily sell a couple dozen to nearly any gardener. Even I started buying them, taken in by their ease of culture and endless forms and colors. Eventually I became interested in hybridizing and he gifted me this plant along with several others. This hosta sickness I have, it’s all because of Art! He obtained this seedling from breeder Chuck Finke and then passed it onto me. That was almost 15 years ago now and it has become nicer than I'd ever imagined. It's on the larger end of medium at 18" tall x 42" wide. The scapes emerge from the mound at an angle and topped with light lavender flowers. It did form a fair number of seed pods for me this season. In the garden, foliage was dark green and glossy with white backs. In pots the color has been brighter green. We will have a very limited number of these and there is no intention of putting it into tissue culture. More pictures available on the website.

As always we'll be at several events. We'll update this list as we schedule more events.
