Pacific Opera is back in 2018!

Dear Supporter,

Here’s an insider’s peek at our 2018 Young Artists’ activities in their first two weeks…

This year we have 11 Young Artist Singers, 2 Young Artist Directors and 1 Young Artist Accompanist plus a large group of Adjunct and Associate Artists – there are so many gifted young people whom we want to assist and we couldn’t do it without you!
Our first training blocks for the year have begun with an induction to the year’s program for all, a chance for our inductees to sing for one another with Artistic Director Simon Kenway at the piano and a lunch with our Board and Supporters at The Opera Centre.

Ensemble rehearsals are now in full swing for the Young Artists’ first public performance of the year - Shakespeare & Friends in the Utzon Room at Sydney Opera House, Sunday 11 March, 3pm. Accompanied by Simon Kenway and directed by Jenny Laing-Peach. Our last Utzon Room Concert sold out, so please - BOOK NOW!

Our Young Artists have had a day of glamour headshots with photographer Marnya Rothe, a Wigs & Hair Styling Workshop with Rachel Dal Santo, an invitation from Opera Australia to attend the General Rehearsal of Shostakovich's The Nose and a brilliant German Language Masterclass by Tanja Binggeli (Opera Australia) followed – all organised superbly by our wonderful Operations manager, Pamela Andrews.

The glamour has continued with performances by Simon and the Young Artists at a private fundraising cocktail party for Pacific Opera in Mosman, hosted by the wonderfully generous Ahearne family.

We can’t wait for you to experience the brilliance of this year’s crop of young artists and look forward to giving you the chance to do that at one of our upcoming concerts and events including:
A Mothers' Day Concert 13th May at the Independent Theatre
Chairman’s Dinner 1st June at the RACV Club
Canberra Symphony Orchestra Opera Gala ‘Love & Lust’ 9th June
Vivid Cocktail Party Friday 15th June
With best wishes on behalf of Simon, Pam, our Board and Advisory Council,
Christine Douglas

We had a fabulous time at a fundraising cocktail party given by the Ahearne family at their home in Mosman. See more pics here.
Set in the Holy Land in the first century C.E., a young woman leaves her small fishing village and traditional family behind to join a radical new social movement. At its head is a charismatic leader, Jesus of Nazareth, who promises that the world is changing. Mary is searching for a new way of living, and an authenticity that is denied her by the rigid hierarchies of the day. As the notoriety of the group spread and more are drawn to follow Jesus’ inspirational message, Mary’s spiritual journey places her at the heart of a story that will lead to the capital city of Jerusalem, where she must confront the reality of Jesus’ destiny and her own place within it.
