Welcome to The Hoot!

Today our students run in from their AWE trip to Death Valley. It's an amazing time on campus to see the hills transform to green after a long winter, and the juniors returning from their own transformation in the wilderness. In this 50th year especially, it is a time of reflection. I'm excited to share below the article written by two of our '71 alums about the first ever AWE trip. Their stories of freezing nights, lifelong friendship, and unexpected challenges will resonate with everyone lucky enough to experience AWE.

In just a couple weeks, Athenian alumni are getting together for the second annual Athenian Alumni Community Service Project! We'll be meeting at the National AIDS Memorial Grove in San Francisco to help maintain the grounds with current Athenian students. As alumni, meaningful contribution means a lot to us, so we really hope you can make it to this event. Keep on reading for more information about upcoming events. Happy 50th!

Warm regards,

The First AWE

While our juniors have been away on AWE, we've been reflecting on the last several decades of the AWE experience. Check out this reflection on the first ever AWE by Michael Connolly '71 and Judy Goldberg '71 on our Athenian Blog

Our New Seismometer

The United States Geological Survey has installed a digital seismometer on Athenian’s campus! The device is a small machine, about the size of a car engine, that is located in the science building. We are able to access the data from the machine, so that we will be able to see earthquake data in real-time! With this seismometer, the USGS is closing a hole in their monitoring network and furthering their understanding of the Calaveras and San Ramon Valley fault systems. We are so excited to help further this important research!
