Dear Friends in Christ,

Last week I wrote to you in the wake of the CDC's announcement that anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, regardless of crowd size. And I noted that the clergy of our Diocese would receive updated guidelines for in-person worship and other church gatherings that would entail significant changes in protocols.

The clergy received the updated guidelines today. I invite you to read them. Among the noteworthy changes are the following:

  • No masks and social distancing required for vaccinated individuals.
  • The return of congregational singing.
  • Communion distributed directly from the clergy (but only the bread and not at the altar rail).
  • The return of indoor receptions and coffee hours.

In order to give time to prepare everyone in our Diocese for these changes, Bishop Thompson asks that the new protocols be implemented beginning on Sunday, May 30 (Trinity Sunday). We will therefore need to continue with the current protocols that include mask wearing, social distancing, and refraining from congregational singing until that time.

We will, however, eliminate registrations for attending services effective immediately.

I rejoice that we will soon cross the finish line and enter a 'new normal.'

And I continue to give thanks for your patience, faithfulness, and support.

A LOOK AHEAD:

We’re going back to Jerusalem 31 AD!

St. Luke’s VBS will return this summer, and we just can’t wait to pretend that we are living together for a bit of time in a small village outside of Jerusalem, learning about Jesus and about life at the time, and most importantly, we’ll be “growing in the Lord. In fact, our theme this year is “Jesus Grows Me”: We’ll again do crafts, play games, hear stories, and learn more about our Hebrew roots as Christian sons and daughters.

We’ve got health safety measures well in hand, and for that reason we’re limiting numbers this year to 60 children, so you’ll want to get in your registration early (see attached link). Ages are rising K thru rising 5th grade. But, we are super happy to have older youth as helpers – it takes a village!

Our annual “Jerusalem 31 AD” has become a true tradition at St. Luke’s, a time when old and young come together to just enjoy “living” together for a few short Spirt-filled days. We can guarantee that you’ll “feel the joy”! Join us, be a part of the fun, if even for a day.

Come “home” to St. Luke’s this summer – we can’t wait to be with you and your young ones.
