2015 - A Year of Firsts

2015 was another year of growth for Pregnancy Helpline, including a lot of firsts. We held our first Comedy Night fundraiser in March, delivered our first Halo SleepSack in May, and in September opened the Sharing Center for its first Thursday evening and held our first Diaper Dash. Pregnancy Helpline also advertised in campus newspapers, received gifts via Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) and joined in Giving Tuesday all for the first time. Amidst these firsts, all four programs served record numbers in 2015!
  • The Helpline answered/responded to 778 calls.
  • The Diaper Bank gave out over 45,000 diapers and collected nearly 30,000 donated diapers.
  • The Sharing Center served 462 clients for a total of 1584 visits.
  • The Baby Care Package program delivered 137 "Welcome Baby" baskets to new moms and babies.
  • The Safe Sleep program delivered 131 Pack-n-Plays to babies in need.
A big thank you to our many devoted volunteers. These program successes are a result of their hard work all year long!

Dedicated Volunteer Makes 500th Safe Sleep Delivery!

Kevin Welton has been faithfully volunteering with the Pregnancy Helpline for 16 years. He is a volunteer for the Safe Sleep program, delivering brand new Pack-n-Plays to families’ homes so their babies will have a clean, safe place to sleep. “It gives me tremendous satisfaction to know we are helping to give families in our community a safe sleeping environment for their newborns. I honestly believe we are saving lives.”
He started keeping track of his deliveries in September 2011, and recently completed his 500th delivery. “For the first few years I would just jot down the name, address and phone on a slip of paper. After making the home visit to deliver or pick up a crib, I’d toss the slip of paper away. Then it finally occurred to me one day, maybe I should keep track of all these deliveries.” Erin Ebersole, coordinator of the Safe Sleep Program, knows Welton is a dependable volunteer. “Kevin truly has a heart for service. He tries his best to make time for the delivery on the same day he receives the client contact information.” Thank you Kevin for your hard work and commitment to Pregnancy Helpline’s Safe Sleep program!

Wish List - Winter Toddler Clothing

The Sharing Center is in need of winter items, especially in toddler sizes 18 months - 4T. With 60+ clients visiting the first Saturday we were open in January, we could use help restocking the clothing racks! Pants, long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, coats, boots and outdoor gear are all requested. Donations may be dropped off at permanent collection bins inside Blessed Sacrament and St. Maria Goretti churches or brought to the Sharing Center during open hours, Saturdays 9:00 am - noon and Tuesdays 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Contact Liz Kirkland for other donation options. Thank you!

Wish List - Rent Sponsorship

Pregnancy Helpline is now securing Sharing Center rent sponsorships for 2016! Due to many generous donors, we are well on our way to filling 12 monthly sponsorships. Will you help us with the last four spots? A rent sponsorship of $600 covers the cost of one month of rent for our Sharing Center at the Catholic Multicultural Center. Your donation helps us to continue serving families with clothing, diapers and more for their children. As a sponsor, you or your business will appear on our website and on a sign outside the Sharing Center door as well as highlighted in our monthly e-newsletter the month you support. April is the next available month. Contact Alissa Hirscher to become a sponsor!

Of Interest - Feminists for Life Announces "Raising Kids on a Shoestring" Website

Feminists for Life has replaced their earlier print format of “Raising Kids on a Shoestring” with a new website. The earlier directories started in 1994 and were filled with free and frugal resources, creative solutions, and practical support for pregnant women, expectant fathers, and parents — including adoptive parents and parents of children with special needs. All of this great information has now been updated and expanded at www.kidsonashoestring.com.

Thank you to our Sharing Center sponsors!

Platinum Sponsor

Thank you to Dr. James Caya and Family for being a Sharing Center Platinum sponsor.
