Guatemala Update: December 11, 2014
Spots Available for March 27-April 5
Volunteer Trip
We still have spots available for March! The trip will be a combination of service and cultural exploration.

The trip could span culinary classes focused on Mayan cuisine (could include learning about chocolate making) to a tour around Lake Atitlan of Guatemalan folk art, artists, and textiles including those that are organically dyed. A tour of restoration projects in Antigua will be planned with local icon and top-rated Trip Advisor guide Elizabeth Bell.

For more information or to apply, download on this page our Trip Overview and Application.

Please share freely with friends and relatives who may be interested in joining us and perhaps YOU on this exciting adventure in culture and service!

Clinic Care: New Caretaker's
Kitchen and Paint Job

Xela AID's June Russel-Glennon Clinic is all a buzz with changes, upgrades, and upkeep!
For patient comfort, all clinic services have been moved to the first floor. Our Dra. Nora's office has been enhanced with a new privacy screen. And, a new office has been added for the work of Yuly Hoffins, therapist, who is among our newest team members.

Administrative offices have been moved upstairs, and five workstations made available. This includes a large workstation for Sub-director Lucky Gonzalez, perfect for parent conferences with children in Xela AID's Work Study Scholarship Program.

The small third floor kitchen used by the Xela AID Clinic's live-in caretakers is being removed to make way for the addition of a proper, multi-use third floor. In its place, a second-floor kitchen is being added for the caretakers and as temporary food preparation for groups.

Clisman, son of Xela AID Tesoros del Corazón weaving cooperative master weaver Maria Luciana Perez Lopez, has been retained beginning this month to paint the inside of the clinic which is already looking bright and clean. And we cannot forget the new meeting space for Xela AID Director Luis Enrique de León that was put to immediate good use in a meeting with our Xela AID Leaders youth group.

The work going on at the Clinic is, in part, in preparation for work that will be done by Xela AID's volunteer groups during 2015 to add a third floor to our headquarters. The third floor will serve as a gathering and eating place for volunteers and will be home to a commercial kitchen and training area to support our education and skill-building programs.

Use the link below for information on how you can volunteer next year and change lives for the better by donating 10 days of your vacation time.
