Community Futures offices in BC have submitted their nominees for the Volunteer of the Year for their community.  Those offices who have nominated an individual but are yet to receive the recognition certificate, will be receiving the certificate in time to present during National Volunteer Week 2016.  We had a great response with 29 offices recognizing volunteers in their communities.
The Canada Rural Restructuring Foundation recently published the "State of Rural Canada 2015"  The CRRF was organized with a focus on developing rural research and knowledge dissemination.  The full report is available at www.sorc.crrf.ca  If you would like to download the chapter specific to BC, visit www.sorc.crrf.ca/bc/  or click here
Economic Development Building Blocks Workshops
Community Futures partnered with the BCEDA to develop and deliver a series of workshops focused on Economic Development.  The workshops included an overview of economic development strategies as well as information on accessing capital.  Community Futures staff participate in the workshop providing information regarding Supporting Small Business and Entrepreneurs. Stakeholders from both the community and surrounding regions attended the workshops.  The interactive workshop provided opportunities for attendees to discuss and prioritize economic development initiatives for their communities.  The workshops were funded by the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training.
The following presentations from the training sessions are available on our website:
  • BDC Presentations from the BA Training
  • TEA material from the TEA Training
Visit the website at communityfutures.ca/training to download or view the materials.  A reminder that you will need a user account to do so.
Working with Growth Oriented Businesses Workshop

One of the challenges facing Community Futures is that not all growth oriented businesses are aware of the services and resources we can offer. In order to help in your discussions with businesses interested in growth, a survey has been developed to serve as a guide for your initial discussions and standardize your approach. This workshop describes the process of creating relationships with potential client businesses – how to target them and establish communication, how to set out the next steps in the relationship, and how to maintain long-term contact.  This workshop is offered by a qualified consultant through online streaming video.  Contact the Leadership Institute for more information about this and other workshops that are available to staff and volunteers.

As of April 1, 2016, the Employee / Family Assistance Program offered through Community Futures, will be moving from Desjardins (Solareh) to Homewood Human Solutions.  Note:  only the EFAP is moving.  All other benefits remain with Desjardins Financial.
Contact information for Homewood Health is www.homewoodhealth.com  Toll free 1-800-663-1142.
There will be two Employee Sessions delivered via webinar, one on Thursday April 7th 10 - 11 am PST and the other on Wednesday April 20 from 12 - 1 pm PST.
