Dear Readers,

I may be conducting a full-day seminar in the third quarter of this year. The intention is to cover all you need to know about intellectual property in business, including DIY IP Searches, practical aspects of IP in business, and IP commercialization such as franchising and licensing. The seminar will be organised by E.V.E. Gold (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. , and the organiser is collecting feedback on the topics of interest to potential participants. Just reply to seminars@envogueethically.com with any topics you want to hear about at the seminar and enjoy a 10% discount off standard price. More details will be coming up shortly.

Government Subsidises Mediation for Intellectual Property Disputes

Effective from 1st April 2016, businesses can enjoy subsidies under the IP Mediation Promotion Scheme if they choose to mediate IP disputes, making mediation an even more attractive alternative to going to court.

Details of the IP Mediation Promotion Scheme

The IP Mediation Promotion Scheme will fund parties up to $5,500 per mediation case.

Parties have the flexibility to use mediation institution of their choice, such as the World Intellectual Property Organisation Arbitration and Mediation Center (WIPO AMC), Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) or Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC).

In conjunction with the Scheme, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) has appointed a panel of IP Adjudicators to give disputing parties a good selection of legal minds from the local IP field.

One condition for the Scheme is that the dispute must be mediated in Singapore.

Some common IP disputes that may be suitable for mediation include opposition to trade marks and invalidation of trade marks.
