New Creative Graphics Coming Soon

There's no doubt that 2016 was a great year for the wide format printing industry. There's more to come in 2017.

Digital wide format printing will continue to grow in 2017, along with the increased use of textiles, pressure sensitive adhesive vinyl, and other specialty media. Flatbed UV-curable inkjet printing is replacing aqueous and solvent techniques. According to a Printing Impressions report, digital wide format overall has been growing at robust 9%, while UV-curable inkjet has increased by 35% in the past two years. Aqueous inkjet has decreased 19% in the same period.

One of reasons UV-curable is outpacing the rest of the market is that it works on so many different materials. Textiles, plastics, metal, glass, wood, ceramic, carpeting and many more materials can now be custom printed and used in new, creative ways. Where is this leading us? Infotrends research consultant Frank Romano believes this will enable printers to get a piece of the $664 billion worldwide home décor market. Read the blog for ideas on where those opportunities may lie.

In 2017, you can expect to see more applications using pressure sensitive adhesive on graphics made with all kinds of substrates. Adhesives are quick and easy to apply and don’t require much in the way of tools or training. They don’t require frames or mounting hardware and don’t damage the underlying walls, floors, and fixtures like fasteners do.

Smart Retailers Use More Floor Graphics

The holiday shopping season is well underway with effective uses of floor graphics in the mix.  This season, you’ll see more retailers using graphics on the floor to drive sales than ever before.  Everett Hatcher, executive vice president of Crawford McWilliams Hatcher Architects, a Birmingham, Alabama based firm that specializes in mall design recently said, "We've found that people tend to look down a lot more than they look up."  We think he's right!  Brick and mortar retail stores are battling for shoppers with creative messaging to lead them to their doors. Graphics show the way, offer promotions, or both!

Here you can see how a retailer in the Denver Airport used CatWalk® to create a floor graphic that offers a free gift to shoppers.  A small ad like this would have a hard time competing with all the massive banners, billboards, and signs that appear in a big airport if it wasn't applied to the floor. The wide floors in the terminal actually make small ads easier to see, and they grab attention.

Printable, peel-and-stick media are becoming more popular with retailers for ads like these and also for creating attractive environments in the store.

TexWalk® is particularly versatile, as it can be used on hard surface floors, carpeting, and painted walls. It applies easily and leaves no adhesive residue. Peel-and-stick graphics are also easy for staff in the store to put up and take down. The matte finish and excellent printability of TexWalk® also make it a favorite for special effects, such as murals and wall/floor combinations. Eye catching graphics go well with "retail-tainment" events too. Retail is increasingly dependent on omnichannel marketing to woo and win shoppers.

Did You Know...

Did You Know
While holiday sales were only expected to increase 1.8% this year compared to 2015, something worth noting is shoppers are taking a multi-approach strategy.  65% of consumers reported that they will shop both online and in stores, giving brick and mortar retailers a chance to really generate sales.

Walls without Fear

TexWalk® is the perfect wide format media for wall applications because it has a repositionable adhesive and it leaves no residue when removed. Even graphics that have been installed for months peel off painted drywall with ease.

To remove, simply lift a corner and pull back at a 45 degree angle with even pressure. TexWalk® doesn't rip or tear. You'll be able to remove it in one piece, just as it was originally applied. There is no need for cleaning of any kind. See the demonstration in Jessup's latest graphics media video.
