Dear Audentes IB family!

My first year as the IB coordinator has passed quickly. During this time many significant things have taken place. Twelve students graduated in June and most of them went on to study at Universities in the USA, Holland, UK, Denmark or Estonia. We hear about their lives and study progress in the current news articles.

This Summer, for the first time, an intensive study of English course was conducted. Last Winter we conducted a Mini Model United Nations simulation. Thirteen schools from all parts of Estonia participated. We invited nine Embassies to take part for our Embassy Fair Day. Also we organized with our Finnish partners a G4 project which was conducted in both Tallinn and Helsinki. We initiated and established the Audentes IB theatre project by putting on a performance of My Fair Lady. Next year the stage presentation will be Arsenic and Old Lace. Last Spring PreIB and DP1 students took part in the project Teeme Ära! (Let’s do it!) and thus helped to clean up the Audentes complex at Paunküla, the DP2 completed their final CAS Project- a hedge was planted on the Audentes grounds.

Using the Erasmus project both our students a teachers have taken part in visitations in a number of European countries and acted as hosts to visitors in Estonia. We have during the year opened our doors to families who are interested in the activities and events put on by the IB in the school. We are open to visitors this school year as well. In Spring teachers came up with new ideas and combinations during the Theory of the Week on how to unite and integrate subjects and present them from a different angel to students.

In the Fall term and during the past year, six new teachers were employed and commenced work at the Audentes IB programm: Agata Marzecova from Slovakia, Jason Cronbach Van Boom from USA, Rodrigo Preciado Azcunaga from Mexico, Kadri Viires, Triin Meritam and Kalmer Piiskop from Estonia. In the current publication we can familiarize ourselves with the views and impressions of the new teachers about Audentes and about their lives in Estonia. In addition to the new teachers we also have acquired new subjects: Student Company and Entrepreneurship; Ethics, Values and Self-development; Academic Skills; Creative Project; Cultural Anthropology. We have employed as the SEN coordinator and career counsellor Triin-Ketlin Siska and as the Extended Essay Coordinator Margarita Hanschmidt. Our History teacher Jason is expecting all interested students to the History and Philosophy Clubs in January.

Through the Creative Project a number of undertakings will be organized which involve the whole school. Karolin, Polina and Kristjan arranged for the Christmas Fair a Healthy Smoothie Caffee, this was part of Audentes Charity Event for raising funds for grandparents raising their grandchildren. In the works is an internet free board games day (January 19) for primary school students and a Culture day (January 26) which will involve participants from more than 14 different countries.

Audentes IB has been in existence since 2011. This means that two weeks ago 5-year evaluation took place. International experts observed the classes, met with the teachers and reviewed the documentation that we can continue to provide excellence in education for the next five years.

All the best to all
Heidy Eskor-Kiviloo
IB Coordinator

A school project done in Egypt
In the final year of the IB program there is a requirement to write a big research paper “Extended Essay” on a subject of your choice. It has to be around 4 000 words, which to some people is A LOT, so I thought for the research paper to connect it with something I really love.
