ATHLETE TESTIMONIAL

Name: Matt Joosten
Age: 21
Sport: Mogul Skiing

When did you start competing in your sport? What inspired you to start?
I started skiing when I was 3 years old. I started out racing, learning how to use my edges and really learning how to ski. I then started Freestyle because I loved to jump and find my own creative way down the mountain. I then realized this was more for me and I entered some local competitions and fell in love.

What are some recent achievements in your sporting career?
My goal when I started competing was to one day ski for Canada on the National Team. The last few years I have been working hard to obtain this goal, and last April I was asked to join the team. This has been my biggest achievement in not only sport but in my life.

What are your short and long-term goals?
My goal within the next few years is to ski on the World Cup Team and to get good enough results to make the Olympic Team for 2018 in Korea.

When did you begin training at The Athlete Factory and how has it helped you in your sport?
I began training at The Athlete Factory about two and a half years ago, and it has changed my view on training totally. Being able to be quick while staying in control is HUGE in mogul skiing. Since I started working out at AF I have worked lots on speed and control, and it has had a major impact on my skiing.

Who is your role model and why do you look up to them?
My role model has always been Bobby Orr because my Dad was a huge fan. I really liked his style of play and his attitude both on and off the ice.

2015 WADA CODE CHANGES EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1st
The World Anti-Doping Agency is introducing new policies with the aim of getting tougher on cheats, and making it easier for clean athletes to compete. The 2015 Code amendments provide for longer periods of Ineligibility for real cheats, and more flexibility in sanctioning in other specific circumstances. The updated policy now prohibits athletes from associating with support personnel, like coaches or trainers, who are sanctioned and/or criminally convicted of doping; this helps protect athletes against those who would abuse positions of power and influence. If your sport follows the WADA code, ensure you are familiar with all the policy updates. For a full summary of changes, please visit their website.
