Hi and welcome to Volume 4 of my 2015 newsletter!

Sooner Than Later

This newsletter comes to you a little sooner than later and there's a good reason why.  Wanna hint? Frank Sinatra sings a song that starts with the words, "Start spreading the news!" :) Yep, you've guessed it, hubby's taking me to New York City for my birthday! Breakfast at Tiffany here I come - my mom has already sent me a crisp $20 US bill for my cuppa java and danish for the morning of my birthday. This is a definite bucket list check off and I'm so excited :)

After New York City, we're Amtraking to Florida for some fun in the sun at Walt Disney World and Kennedy Space Centre.

What excites me most about going to Florida though is that I get to meet a beautiful, love filled soul. A dolphin named Winter!

For those of you who don't know who Winter is, she's a dolphin that lives at Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, Florida. She was found at just a few months of age, caught in a crab trap and had to have her tail amputated as a result. Winter couldn't be set free (back into the wild) once she'd lost her tail, so her home is now at the aquarium.

Winter's story is not only an uplifting story about survival, but more importantly it's about inspiration. It amazes me what she does for people who visit her at the aquarium! I CAN'T WAIT! Hollywood has made two movies, Dolphin Tale and Dolphin Tale 2, about her.

Winter exemplifies that you can beat the odds!

What Does Meeting Winter Mean

For me meeting Winter is both the recognition and celebration of the final stage of my own personal transformation. It's a solidification of the belief in me, myself and I and that I will always move forward despite any curve balls life throws me. It's the gift that I at last can give myself after leaving all the emotional garbage behind on the mountain when I did my 30 Day Fitness Challenge with Wholly Fit last summer.

Those of you who read my blog already, you know what a deep and fulfilling breath I took at the top of Mt. H'Kusam. If you haven't read my blog yet, check it out on Wholly Fit's website. Seeing Winter in person is gonna make me cry - it's both a precipice and the beginning of a new direction in my life.

Hubby knows that at the heart of his spunky little wife is a sensitive and emotional soul. He knows that when I care, it's genuine and unwavering - the porch light is always on for a few of my wayward birds - in their heart they know who they are - that reached that mushy part of me when they were in it. Without a doubt, hubby is gonna have the tissues ready and, of course, my baby boy will have both his little arms opened wide for me to run into once I've met her :) They both know the magnitude of what this moment means to me. 

I'm looking forward to meeting Winter's best friend, Hope, and all the others residents at Clearwater Marine Aquarium too!

A big thanks to my celebrity brother, Ray (founder of the ever popular, growing in leaps and bounds website, Love Your RV)! He's returning home after another six-month trip RV'ing, so he can stay at my house and take care of my beloved animals (aka my furry family).

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Hmmmmmmmmm

Have you ever sat late at night and wondered just what your presence in peoples' lives means?

Have you ever woke up in the morning and not jumped up out of bed, but instead pulled the covers over and thought, "I just can't do this today?"

We all have those moments where we try to pretend we are someone we are not. Years of shaming by other people, years of taunting by people who barely know you us, or even years of being stuck inside an archetypal role in your family can make the outside world see someone you are not.

So, I ask you now, do you have to be what others suppose or wish you to be?

Well, I say NO and give a shout out to my family here. For despite a little rocky of a childhood, I did manage to grow up to be an independent minded individual. In other words, my family embraced my unpredictable and sometimes wacky ways so I could just be "me". My husband loves this part of my personality as well. He says my moxie and fire is his favorite part. I am so fortunate that I always stayed true to myself. 

The goal in each of our lives should always be to stand tall and to say no to people who are try to pigeonhole us into being people they wish they could be more like (magical words right here that you need to really think about).

You do not have to be that person anyone else wants you to be. Like I've always said to myself (especially after the "I don't want to get up and face the day" mornings in bed), I don't owe it to anyone but myself to be authentically me. Trying to be someone you are not only confuses people who do support your authentic self and in the end is just not worth it. Remember one little lie can spin itself into a cobweb! 

Instead, reach deep inside yourself and say enough is enough. The world is a large place. You may be confronted by people in your life who do not appreciate or even like the authentic you. But take my advice and move on. These people are not worth it. I guarantee the colors in your life will change into a rainbow of like-minded people who celebrate the beautiful soul you are inside as soon as you let them in. Like the Taylor Swift song, "Shake It Off" says, just shake it off. The haters are just gonna keep hatin', so wave goodbye to them and say hello to the people who appreciate and love you just for being you.

Remember if you surround yourself with people who constantly talk negatively about other people, it's highly likely they are talking about you too when you're not around. This is nothing more than insecurity on their part, but you don't have play along with fulfilling their self-hatred. Just "shake it (and them) off".

MY FITNESS CORNER
Mud Mulisha

My first of three Mud Mulishas is on May 23rd at Bear Mountain. I'm excited for the mud run and have been busy continuing my training with Wholly Fit.

Admittedly, I am not the best runner, but I am stubborn, so I can do long runs. I am more addicted to throwing myself over wood planks, climbing monkey bars, jumping into mud pits to crawl through mud, so I try my best to keep up. I'm not fast, like some of my Wholly Fitters who run like the wind, but I try! Which, after all, is the best thing you can do! Hey, I'm going to be 49-years old in a few weeks, so I'm not doing bad representing us old folks - I sorta keep up with the 20 somethings I do ;)

I highly suggest finding a fitness activity! Even walking the dog or playing ball with the kids counts. Our bodies like to move, so let them do that while you enjoy the outside.

That Set Back

In my last newsletter, I spoke of my little set back. I have been a little stronger this month. I've upped my rowing to 45 minutes a session. To make the 15 minute leap means a lot to me. I love rowing! I've also not allowed myself to pull up at Event Training when we simulate a rope. I get assistance. I would rather save my arm to see if it will perform the day of Mud Mulisha. I will not push it at the first Mud Mulisha event though, of course! I will honor how my body feels that day! I did so well last year on the rope climb (I am speaking from a personal point of view, I do not compare myself to my teammates), I don't have anything to prove this year :)

I have had a bit of nerve pain that started after reducing my medication last summer. Overcoming it has been a work in progress and it comes and goes. It might have something to do with having my head ripped open and brain surgeries - boo-yah, lol! In seriousness, I have found a massage therapist that has gotten into that critical spot that the pain was hiding, YAY!!! So I'm am feeling more inspired!

Recipe To Enjoy



LIME & COCONUT CHICKEN
Lime and coconut, yum.  I'm thinking that us vegetarians could replace tofu in this recipe.  It looks delicious and I think my hubby might just like it!  Definite must try!

Lime and Coconut Chicken
 
INGREDIENTS
  1. 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  2. 3 tbsp oil
  3. zest of 1 lime
  4. 1 tsp ground cumin
  5. 1 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  6. 2 tbsp soy sauce
  7. 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  8. 2 tbsp sugar
  9. 2 tsp curry powder
  10. 1/2 cup coconut milk
  11. pinch cayenne
  12. 1 small fresh hot chili, such as Thai or Serrano, minced (optional)
  13. 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  14. Fresh limes, cut into wedges
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Trim fat from chicken breasts. Starting on thick side of the breasts slice the chicken breasts almost in half, then open each like a book.
  2. Place each open breast between two pieces of plastic wrap, wax paper or inside a large, open, Ziploc bag.
  3. Using a small heavy pan, bottle or smooth meat mallet lightly pound out each breast into even thickness.
  4. Mix all remaining ingredients except fresh cilantro and limes.
  5. Add chicken and marinade to a large bowl or ziploc bag and chill in the refrigerator for up to two hours.
  6. Your chicken doesn’t take long to cook so you can use this time to get your dishes prepped and ready.
  7. Once you are ready to cook the chicken, remove each breast from the marinade.
  8. Pour the marinade into a small saucepan and bring to a rolling boil. Boil continuously for at least 2 minutes, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t burn.
  9. In a heavy skillet or grill pan, heat a splash of oil over high heat.
  10. Cook the chicken in batches to prevent over crowding the pan.
  11. Place the breasts in the hot pan and cook without turning for a couple minutes
  12. Flip the breasts over and cook until the other side is golden, it shouldn’t take long depending on the thickness of your chicken.
  13. Place cooked breasts on a plate in a warm oven or under foil while cooking the remaining chicken.
  14. Sprinkle with fresh lime juice and cilantro. Serve with sauce on the side.

SOMETHING I'VE DISCOVERED
Last month, I pointed you to the website MindBodyGreen and an article on emotional spring cleaning. I hope each of you took a moment to pause and rid yourself of some useless emotional clutter. I know I have.

I understand that it can be tough to do this. Sometimes though it's imperative that you remove people or situations that you have outgrown in your life in order to make room for the wonderful. You'll be okay, trust me :)

It's like my mom always says, people are in your life for a reason, a season, or for life.

Remember, we sometimes don't realize until we take the steps to remove someone or something from our life (always with love) how toxic they/it actually were/was.

I hope you removed (with love) what is no longer working for you anymore :)

Since my last newsletter, I 've been busy with all my teeth sunk into the eBook about my stroke. I have been working on uploading my ugly me pics that you will enjoy and I will hate, lol! I'm getting very near completion, yay! I think this little holiday will help to get me going for the final draft read when I return home. Then it's that hit publish button moment!!! Thanks so much for your patience, I appreciate it and you!

Please know too that whether or not you're a subscriber, I'm always humbled that any of you take the time to read what I write. I don't have any editors or spell checkers reading my work. It's just me, so my sincere thanks for continuing to read :)
