Tell Morrison & Shorten:
We need remedies
when rights are violated.

Australia has failed to ratify a key UN treaty, denying everyone in Australia access to UN complaints procedures relating to vital matters of daily life, like housing, education, health and social security.

This election, call on our leaders to provide the highest level of remedy for economic, social & cultural rights violations.

At Remedy Australia, we are regularly contacted by people seeking redress for rights violations. People who feel they have nowhere to turn.

Remedy Australia can't provide legal advice or individual assistance for people seeking redress, but we do advocate for access to all the UN's human rights complaints mechanisms for everyone in Australia.

The real hole in our human rights protections at that level is economic, social & cultural rights. They are rights felt in our daily lives -- the right to work, to safe and affordable housing, to the highest attainable standard of health, to education for all. And more
And when these rights are denied, we need robust means of fixing things.

Like when Centrelink issues automated, false debt notices.

Or our nursing homes provide sub-standard aged care.

Or when our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander citizens suffer disproportionate rates of disability, illness and premature death.

There are real people at the other end of these violations. And if they have exhausted all options in Australia, they should be able to seek redress at the UN.

Our economic, social & cultural rights are the basis of a decent life

They are human rights at work in our daily lives.

This moment is powerful

Our politicians like to talk about jobs, health and education, but are they fair dinkum?
