Jose is an amazing young boy from Purulha, Baja Verapaz, with a great future ahead of him. He attended our MMM three months ago, at the age of 9, with his mother Amelia.
His mother works at the local school, cleaning and helping the teachers, and his father was killed 5 years ago and they have been struggling with life.
Amelia travelled to a local national hospital due to Jose's inguinal hernia, but they kept telling her to come back month after month to provide the much needed surgery. When she heard about our MMM in her area, she visited us.
We provided Jose with the surgery, and he received even more: our volunteers' hearts. He learned many English phrases and would repeat them back to the doctors, accompanied by his wonderful smile.
"I have the strength to fight for him and give him the best education in my possibilities, I just needed your help with his surgery. He is healthy now and, look at him, he received surgery yesterday and today he is smiling and wanting to go back home and play", his mother told us. Jose dreams to become a teacher at his local school.
We work hard to change the lives of many in the rural areas, but we are still amazed to find people like Jose and Amelia.
We wish your dreams will come true, Jose!
In October we started a microproject on Global Giving to help Jonny Bravo, a happy boy from Chisec, Alta Verapaz, who misses playing soccer with his twin brother. He was identified during our MMM in June for a hernia repair.
Microprojects are small-scale campaigns on Global Giving, where even the minimum donation amount ($10) can make a great impact.

On November 29, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match 50% of the donations made throughout the day at Global Giving.
As the date approaches, we will be sending out reminders through our social media channels.
This is a great opportunity for Partner for Surgery to receive more funds for our larger projects and change many more lives.
