Cristofer is 1 year 6 months old and was identified in a MMM in 2015 in Tamahu Alta Verapaz.
When we found him, he was so malnourished that we made an exception and entered him in our nutritional program, which is aimed towards cleft lip and palate patients. Identified with bilateral inguinal hernias, he has been visited by our health promoter Marta every month. He regained his strength very slowly but was finally at the point for surgery.
His mother, Maria Carcamo, had been looking for help since her husband left them. Before Cristofer, they had Sofia, who was also born with bilateral inguinal hernias. Maria's husband, after seeing that Cristofer was born with bilateral hernias as well, left them, blaming Maria for the children's ailment. Maria has been fighting many obstacles in order to provide for her family.
Today we can say mission accomplished. Cristofer received the much needed surgery and we will keep looking after him and helping him nutritionally. We were able to get support from the Order of Malta, providing beans and rice, hoping for Cristofer to gain more weight and be on the path of becoming a successful man.
When different organizations come together, more lives can be positively changed.
In October we started a microproject on Global Giving to help Jonny Bravo, a happy boy from Chisec Alta Verapaz who misses playing soccer with his twin brother. He was identified during our MMM in June for a hernia repair.
Microprojects are small-scale campaigns on Global Giving, where even the minimum donation amount ($10) can make a great impact.

On November 29, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match 50% of the donations made throughout the day at Global Giving.
As the date approaches, we will be sending out reminders through our social media channels.
This is a great opportunity for Partner for Surgery to receive more funds for our larger projects and change many more lives.
