In Downtown Miami, FL, there's a striking mural between the buildings with a very inspiring message: Anything can be beautiful when you look at it with love.
This message could not be more true to what we do in Guatemala.
In rural Guatemala, life can be a struggle. With families living many miles away from the closest health centers and having very limited financial resources, we know that it is up to us to help those in need. Our patients come from all paths of life, from the one-year-old Ruth Noemí, pictured above, to the 75-year-old Elena, the mother of 4 featured in one of our website stories.
In 2016, we were able to provide medical care to literally thousands of people, which in turn resulted in thousands of smiles shared with our teams of volunteers, partner organizations and donors. When a patient smiles at us, we just know that we are doing the right thing. We see the beauty in the work put in by our volunteers, and we feel the love as we change each and every life.
We were able to close the year with 22 medical missions, 688 surgeries, 4,631 people who received medical attention, and 165 children enrolled in our Infant Nutrition Program.
As our journey continues through 2017, we can only imagine what other stories are still waiting, and we would like to invite you to discover them with us.

We are making a renewed effort to encourage non-medical volunteers to join us on a medical mission in Guatemala and also visit some of the patients in their rural homes. If you know of anyone who might have an interest in learning more, please contact Frank Peterson at 703 893-4335.
