August/September 2019 Newsletter

From Mr. Phillips, Head of School

We are off to a great start of the 2019-20 school year. If you were unable to make it to one of our beginning of the school year orientations, here are a few changes for you to take note of. The Parent/Student handbook had a few revisions made. We changed our grading scale to a 10-point scale for A’s, B’s, and C’s. Grades 65 – 69 are now a D, and anything below a 65 is an F. We also made a minor change in our dress code policy for jackets. Lastly, please review the “Tardiness” policy in the handbook. This policy will be enforced this school year.
Our outdoor project on the back corner of the school is near completion. We have selected a new name for the area, and it will now be known as “Crusader Commons.” Addie Waugh submitted the winning name. Addie will receive tickets to the CBS Night at SRP Park and will be throwing out the first pitch at the Augusta GreenJackets game on August 30th.

We have a lot of exciting extracurricular, academic and fine art events hosted by SCISA that we plan on having our students participate in this year as well. We will be sending more information as those dates draw near.

Thank you again for partnering with us, and we look forward to a great year
with you all. “Walk Worthy.”

- Mr. Scott Phillips, Head of School

Daycare & Preschool News

Daycare & Preschool welcomed many new faces this August! We enjoyed our summer here, and we have spent the last few weeks gearing up for the 2019-20 year ahead. We have been welcoming new students into our Curtis family in the baby room, and we are in love! The two-year-old classrooms are busy learning how to participate in circle time and weekly chapel on Tuesday mornings for the first time. Our PreK-3 has had an amazing start learning basic Bible foundations and has focused on more structured curriculum. PreK-4 has been excited to get back in the swing of things with not only weekly chapel but music class and their new PE class implemented this year with Coach Shelley. We are beyond excited to announce that we will be opening a new two-year-old room within the next few months, due to the growth of our Daycare & Preschool family. We welcome all of our new students and returning students and pray that God would teach and encourage you and your families this year!
- Mrs. Avia Stocker, Daycare & Preschool Director

Elementary School News

We are off to a great start this year. In keeping with our theme "Walk Worthy", students have begun to learn and practice the Fruits of the Spirit. The presence of the “fruit of the Spirit” is evidence that our character is becoming more like Christ’s. The students are enjoying their Chapel time where they are continuing to learn and grow in “fruits of the Spirit.”

Upcoming this month, we will have our Grandparents Day program presented by our Elementary students. It will be held in the Sanctuary on Tuesday, September 24, from 8:15 am - 9:00 am. Please join us to share this special event with your grandchild. We will also have a See-You-At-The-Pole gathering on Wednesday, September 25.

Ephesians 4:16, "From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."
- Mrs. Lisa Ingle, Elementary School Principal

Middle & High School News

Congratulations - during the past few weeks you and your family have successfully made the transition from the relaxed schedule of summer vacation to the structure of the school schedule. I am very proud of our Middle and High school students as they have settled in and are taking their work seriously.

As we continue to move though the year you will be hearing of more opportunities for the Middle and High school students to participate in. We encourage all of our students to get involved in extracurricular activities because many colleges and employers are looking at them as well as academics in their selection process.

Parents, our goal is to communicate with you on a regular basis. Please continue to use Renweb to check the progress of your student and receive information from our faculty and staff. I look forward to working with you this year as we partner together to make this a great year for our students.

Thank you for choosing to be part of our Curtis family.

- Mr. Larry Ford, Middle and High School Principal

CBS 55th Anniversary

Did you know that Curtis Baptist School is celebrating its 55th year this year?

Here is a brief summary of CBS' 55-year history:
  • The Daycare and Elementary (K – 6th) were established in 1964 as a mission of Curtis Baptist Church.
  • The 7th and 8th grades were added in 1965.
  • Ninth grade was added in 1970.
  • The remainder of the high school was added and dedicated in 1973.
Throughout this 55th Year, we will take opportunity to recognize and celebrate God's provision and direction for our school over many decades.  Keep your eyes open for ways you can participate.

Welcome back! I pray you and your family had a fun and relaxing summer vacation! It is also my prayer that this school year will be full of spiritual growth, educational learning and fun.

I am looking forward to getting into the Elementary classrooms for guidance topics (the Fruits of the Spirit), speaking with Middle and High School students about college and career topics, and having representatives from different colleges and career fields come in for lunchtime visits.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Since I cover the whole school, email is typically the best way to get in touch with me: You can also reach me by telephone: 706-828-6624, option 5.

You are what makes the coupon book sale a success, which in turn builds the resources we can make available to our students. Books and money will need to be turned in by Friday, September 6.
