Quite a few people have already contacted us about the Amtrak crash.  We thought it made sense to share information in case you or someone you care about was affected.  

Does Myers & Company handle claims against companies like Amtrak that carry passengers?
 

Yes.  We have handled almost 100 of these cases.  
 
Are there any limitations on what Amtrak will have to pay?
 
Amtrak’s liability is limited by statute.   But Amtrak isn’t going to be the only one on the hook.  In crashes like this there are likely going to be claims against the manufacturer of the rail cars involved and the railroad responsible for maintaining the track where the crash happened.  

Can people (like drivers on the freeway) also recover against Amtrak? 

Yes.  Claims are not limited to passengers on the train.  People in th
eir cars who were hurt can also make claims.  
 
Who will figure out what caused the crash?
 
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is already conducting an investigation. It will examine the "black box”, equipment and conduct extensive interviews with cre
wpassengers, the railroad that maintained the track and the company that provided the cars to Amtrak.
 
What should people who have been hurt do next?
 
The most important thing to do is focus on getting better.  That goes for the families who lost someone in the crash too.  
 
One of the best ways to focus on getting better is to outsource all of the legal  work to someone who has experience handling it.  That’s going to produce the best outcome and reduce stress.
