"He made everything beautiful in its time. He has set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. "
- Ecclesiastes 3:11
We have some exciting news and some exciting new opportunities for our students. Let's get right to it:
Prepping for our school year before the big announcement
Great News!  Students can come back!

The pictures above show our preparations for the school year. We knew we could go to a hybrid model, with students online and in classes. But we also knew that we might be prohibited from having any students. Sure enough, when our school year started, we had to work from a distance. Our incredible team of computer teachers connected cords and computers so almost every classroom now has internet access. We planned all of our class schedules for online classes. We have to praise our teachers. They handled all the changes like complete professionals so when classes started, everything went smoothly.

     But then...

On Saturday, Jan 22nd, the Ministry of Education published that students can come back to school even if we are in "red" (denoting a high number of active COVID cases). Obviously, we must take precautions to protect our students and staff, but any family who wants to send their children to school will find us ready and waiting. As best we can tell, we will not have to return to full online classes, just in time for our very first group of the year on Jan 31st. Students will split in two groups to come twice a week for now.

We take the health of our students seriously. But distance learning in Guatemala brought on several problems, the greatest of which were being able to connect online and staying motivated to excel.  We had many students who stopped doing quality work, and still some who stopped coming to school altogether. As a school, it's our passion and responsibility to offer the best education possible, so we look forward to having our little loved ones back in the classroom where we can educate, encourage, and equip to the greatest extent of our abilities. The pandemic hit us hard, but now we see a more tangible hope and a very positive change of course in the Morning Glory Story.

We will be back to this Jan 31st!
Great New Options and Team!

Diversified School can be hard to define. It comes after Secondary School, coincides with Middle School in the States. Students are around the age of 15 when they graduate from Secondary School (also known as Basics in Guatemala). But when entering Diversified School, students must make a choice. Diversified School follows a more European model, where student choose a track to specialize in before going to the University. Secondary School is the last level of general education. DIversified School offers the option to get a certification or basic degree to prepare students for a job, or a major in the University.

For a few years now, we've had just one track: a basic degree in computers. But last year, our Academic Director, Heyson, put in a lot of hours and we got authorization for four new options: Accounting, Bilingual Secretary, Electronic Devices, and Lori's dream of Education. That's right. Morning Glory is now teaching teachers. This year, we aren't opening the Accounting track, but we have students in all the others. We are proud of the team (made up of new hires and faithful MG teachers) who has stepped up to plan this new venture in less-than-ideal circumstances, but we are thankful to God who went ahead and made this a fairly easy process. We love opening up new opportunities to the community we serve.

The New Team in Diversified!
New Desks!

You may have seen us raising funds to "Desk the Halls" at Morning Glory. Thanks to different initiatives, we bought a total of 200 desks from funds raised in 2021!  We have filled 2nd grade to 6th grade with brand-new desks. We want to make a different style of desk for 1st grade. This year, we will look to raise more funds for 200 more desks to fill up Secondary School. Here are some pictures, that speak for themselves, including some before and afters:

New Budget!

All of these changes and growth come with a new step of faith. Diversified School will generate more funds for us, but we still have to increase our budget by at least 10% ($3,000). This means we need to raise our giving monthly! We ask you to to help us grow by becoming a giving partner with us or increase your current giving. You can also sponsor a child here. Your giving goes to keep the teachers we need in the classroom and provide the basic needs of the school. We ask you to prayerfully consider giving to Morning Glory in this new chapter of growth and expansion.

With all the changes we have, we have much to praise and petition to God.
We ask you to pray:

     - For all our leaders as we quickly adjust plans

     - For the students as they come back; that they will be ready to learn and             build relationships

     - For protection and health for everyone on campus at Morning Glory

     - For one of our teachers who is trying to improve a difficult family situation

     - That Morning Glory leaders will make wise and brave decisions for the               program

      - For provision as we expand our budget

We praise God for:

     - The students are coming back!

     - The new students and grade levels

     - The new desks

     - The groups that are coming back this year

     - His continued provision

How can we pray for you?
