Celebrating African Entrepreneurship and Save the Date: ADIS2018

Dear Friends,
Africans in the Diaspora continue to thrive around the world and in the home Continent, building partnerships that enhance our global impact.

In his 2016 trip to Kenya, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that "Africa Will Build the Future." His trip sought to explore sub-Saharan Africa as a hub of entrepreneurship for its leadership in mobile money. His visit signals growing interest in African innovation and emphasizes the importance of the African Diaspora as critical to the future of the Continent. We demonstrate this every year through the African Diaspora Investment Symposium, our annual event that fosters African ingenuity and realizes potential through partnerships.

We celebrate African entrepreneurs who have continued to build new channels of innovation with tech titans like Facebook and eBay and our partners and changemakers across the globe.

ADN Partners with Santa Clara University Frugal Innovation Hub

"Empowering People, One App at a Time"

Connecting problems to opportunities and creating enterprises are essential to the work of ADN. On September 14, the African Diaspora Network, in partnership with the Santa Clara University Frugal Innovation Hub, hosted the first session in a series on dialogue and action on how to harness the power of mobile technology to solve real problems for real people, to imaginatively identify new opportunities to create value, and to do it in a way that is financially and logistically sustainable.,

As a result, several attendees have requested to get in touch with grassroots organizations in Africa that are now running projects that Frugal Innovation has supported -- one interested party seeks to connect with Wakabi of Uganda to support in any way possible. For this reason, the African Diaspora Network and the Frugal Innovation Hub are developing leads for those interested in partnering on a grassroots project in Africa. In the upcoming weeks, we will send out a request for submission of project ideas from the Continent and from the Diaspora. Those that qualify or meet the criteria will have an opportunity to work with Frugal Innovation Hub.

The event featured the expertise of Professor Silvia Figueira, PhD, Associate Professor of Computer Engineering and Director of the Frugal Innovation Hub at Santa Clara University, and Hugh Molotsi, Founder and CEO of Ujama.
