Senior League Results from Last Weekend

Super news from the Ladies 4s who won 5-0 on Saturday to earn league promotion for the third season in a row! And with 3 games still to play - so impressive!

And guess who's right behind them in 2nd place in the same league...GHC Ladies' 5s - who won 7-0 on Saturday!

But our highest score of the day came from the Men's 2s who put 8 goals past Wanderers while keeping a clean sheet.

Excellent run from the Men's 1st team who beat Wycombe on Saturday to move ahead of Indian Gymkhana to 3rd in the South Premier League table. It's a tight race for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places with three matches left of the league season.

The Ladies 1s are undefeated in the league since the Christmas break. And on Sunday they also won a gripping England Hockey Tier 2 Cup match that went all the way to penalty flicks! (match report below)

Junior Round-up of Sunday Fixture Results

Well done to the three teams of Boys Under 10s who competed in the Surrey County Plate Finals on Sunday.

And congratulations to our GHC team who finished the day with Bronze Medals!

Two teams of Girls Under 10s also played in their Surrey Plate competition with one team getting to quarterfinals!

There were a few other matches for our older teenagers.

And it was a Player Pathway date for U13-U17 players who are in Academy Centres (AC), Performance Centres (PC) and National Age Group Squads (NAGS). For more information on what all the acronyms mean, see the England Hockey Player Pathway (PP) webpage here.

Notable Fixtures
Sunday 8 March

It's a really big day for GHC Juniors...

Two teams each of Girls U12s and Boys U12s compete in Surrey County Cup competitions at St George's College Weybridge.

And four teams of Girls U12s also compete in the Surrey County Plate, hosted at Guildford and Charterhouse.

We have a few other league matches, notably the Under 18 Boys are away at Marden Russets and a win will secure them a top two finish in the Premier League and a place in League Finals Day. Good luck, boys!

England Hockey Tier 2 Championship matches are taking place for BU14B, BU16C and GU16A. The girls could progress to EH Area Finals with a win over Alton.

And then back at home the Boys Under 16s compete in the England Hockey Tier 1 Area Finals with games against Bromley and Beckenham, Oxford Hawks and Cambridge City. One of the four teams will get to EH National Finals. Best of luck, boys!

Surrey Youth Games 2020

GHC will be running the hockey sessions for SYG 2020 for both Waverley and Guildford Boroughs!

For those unfamiliar with the games, the objective is to get children ages 6 to 16 to try a new sport.

8 weeks of coaching sessions are free (!) and then there is a big inter-borough tournament/event on 13-14 June at the Surrey Sports Park.

The sessions start in April and will run on a Wednesday evening - tell your friends who don't (yet) play hockey.

For more information and to sign up, see the Surrey Youth Games webpage.

GHC Director of Hockey, Dan Fox, met with the Young Ambassadors who will be helping run the games to talk about his experience playing hockey at the Olympics.

See the details here in our Club News article.

A great community effort to grow sport and in particular, our sport

If anyone would like to help fund/sponsor our SYG 2020 Coaching, please get in touch with Dan.
COVID-19 Advice

We are all no doubt aware that the novel coronavirus situation is changing rapidly.

Please pay close attention to the public health advice. Self-isolate or call 111 as advised...

Surrey Hockey Association circulated the latest advice from the Department for Education and Public Health England - here is what they say:

If you have travelled to an affected area or been in contact with someone from an affected area, heed the advice.

Better safe than sorry - stay home if the advice says you should!

Let's face it, the cost of every ball, bib and hour of pitch hire adds up.

At GHC our dedicated volunteers and terrific network of sponsors help us keep costs down. But there is still more we can do to keep the club's finances in balance so we can achieve more, play more, enjoy more.

Sign up for easyfundraising and the Club benefits every time you shop online with an easyfundraising partner.

Your InTouch editor signed up one year ago; 20 online shopping transactions over the year have netted £21 for the Club. Imagine if 100 or 500 people were to sign up! (Or if I shopped a bit more!)
