Junior Round-up of Sunday Fixtures

Storm Ciara wreaked havoc for Junior matches the week before last, and last weekend her successor, Dennis, disrupted Junior fixtures.

Three teams were determined to play, despite the conditions:

The Under 16 Girls won their EH Championship pool match 6-0 over a visiting Horsham side. That's two wins from three and with one more win they are through to Area Finals.

Despite a good performance, the Under 16 Boys lost their final EH Championship pool match. Their previous wins in the pool mean they progress to Area Finals in this Tier 1 competition - good luck boys!

Sadly, our Under 18 Boys also lost to a quality Surbiton side in the EH Championships. This knock-out competition means they won't be able to further defend their National title. Our boys put up a good fight and had most of the possession in the second half but couldn't manage to bring the score back to level before full time.

Other Junior fixtures on Sunday were cancelled or postponed in the interest of safety.

Junior Half-term Camps

Fortunately Storm Dennis died down before our three days of half-term camps at the club earlier this week.

GHC Director of Hockey Dan Fox ran camps for 160 players over three days - including about 100 different players.

Loads of players and plenty of enthusiastic, experienced coaches. Well done to all!

Our next GHC school holiday camps are 6-7 April. Mark your agendas!
This Weekend at GHC:

Home Fixtures
Saturday 22 Feb

The Ladies leagues are on half-term break this weekend, but 7 of our 8 Men's teams are in action, including at home:

11:45 Men's Pilgrims v Old Cranleighans
13:15 Men's Shadows v Old Kingstonians
15:00 Men's 1s v West Hampstead
16:30 Men's Cavaliers v GHC Gondoliers

Notable Junior Fixtures
Sunday 23 Feb

On Sunday we host the Surrey Boys Under 12 Plate competition at GHC.

GHC have two teams out of 16 in the competition. Matches start at 10:15 with the Final scheduled for 13:30.

Other Under 10 and 12 County events are coming soon.

The Under 14 Boys B side and the Under 16 Girls A side each have knock-out matches to qualify for League Finals Day, a chance to play against the top two Premier League teams and those who progress through the knock-out stages.
  • The Boys are up against Teddington and Reading away at Reading.
  • The Girls are home to Epsom at 14:00, following the Under 12 Boys Plate Final.
Plenty of other matches as well - best of luck to all!

Latest Match Reports

You did it! We have our 1000th match report on the GHC website.

And it is very fitting that it comes from the Gondoliers, whose report from 8 Feb was late in for last week's edition. Had it been on time, the M1s rerport would have been our 1000th.

That brings the Gondoliers total match reports on the GHC website to 118. They are usually very entertaining and include everything from poetry to quasi film scripts. Do have a look.

Keep the reports coming. For those whose teams don't have the habit or think you don't have the time, even a few brief words to share with the club and community are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and here's this week's installment:

New First Aid Kits!

If you played at home last weekend you might have noticed the new First Aid kits for our home pitches.

Please note that there is a RED First Aid kit bag for each pitch - labelled "Blue" or "Sand". (Please don't take the green ones - which need to stay where they are on the wall.)

The team playing the first match of the day needs to collect the kit from the entrance to the bar (upstairs in the clubhouse) and take it to the pitch,

The last team to play on either pitch must return the kit to the bar at the end of the day's matches.

Please remember to complete an injury report for each injury. England Hockey collect these - the more data the better as they continue to monitor the sport along with the FIH and other NGB's for the safety of all.

Please hand in reports to Michelle Fussell or the First Aid room (first door on the left as you enter the clubhouse from outside.)

A special Thank You to Hartington Financial Consultancy Ltd whose generous sponsorship helped us replace the green First Aid boxes that had broken and update with fresh supplies.

Also, Thank You to Michelle Fussell for acquiring and organising the new bags and supplies!
