Breaking News - the latest from GHC

The biggest news of 2020 so far is...

GHC Ladies played indoor last weekend and qualified for the England Hockey Super 6s Division Two play-offs taking place 18-19 January in Nottingham!

Read the match report below to see how it all went.

For those unfamiliar with the EH Indoor competition structure - aka the Super 6s:
  • Premier Division Men
  • Premier Division Women
  • Division One Men
  • Division One Women (*)
  • Division Two Men
  • Division Two Women (**)
  • Regional Qualifiers Men
  • Regional Qualifiers Women (***)
Teams play their way up the structure to the Premier Divisions which have nine teams each.

GHC Ladies won the Southern Counties Regional Qualifiers (***) on 15 December to progress to the Division Two South Play-offs. They came second in that on 4-5 January and so are now in the next level up, the Division Two (**)!

Two teams can qualify on 18-19 January to be in Division One (*) next year.

The Division One and Premier Divisions have also had play-offs recently and the top 4 Men's and Women's Premier Division teams participate in the Jaffa Super 6s on Sunday 2 February at the Copperbox Arena in London (Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park).

This Weekend at GHC: 4-5 January

This evening we host 7-a-side games against the RGS Guildford - affectionately known as the Gary Lonie Games to honour one who has done so much for our Juniors and Club and who started this annual tradition several years ago.

Please note there are some changes to squad training for those not involved in the games - please check with your Squad Manager,

It's a verrrry quiet day at home with most Senior matches happening away.

GHC Men's 2s and Shadows are home starting at 11:45 with the 3s and Cavaliers at Charterhouse and Prior's Field School.

RGS Guildford use Broadwater for their home pitches during the boys school hockey term - this week their matches take place exceptionally in the afternoon - subsequent weeks' matches are normally finished by early afternoon.

It's another big day for the Juniors with Under 12 Festivals at home, Under 10 Festivals away and fifteen league and cup games for U12-18s taking place.

Best of luck to everyone - and once again a massive thanks to all who chip in to make all of these fixtures happen week in and week out during the season!
Light Admin Help Required...

Many hands make light work.

We have dozens and dozens of people helping deliver a great hockey experience at GHC.

But we can always use a few more helping hands.

Our Saturday Umpire Coordinator has sadly had to give up the role - many, many thanks to Rob Lee for having looked after this in recent seasons.

Please contact Mike Kefford if you think you can spare a handful of hours per month (perhaps an hour per week, ahead of the Saturday fixtures) during the season.

No previous experience required; you will meet some new people, send a few texts or emails, and be very much appreciated.

Go for it. Email Mike now...

Help keep the cost of your hockey down...for free...when you shop online

Let's face it, the cost of every ball, bib and hour of pitch hire adds up.

At GHC our dedicated volunteers and terrific network of sponsors help us keep costs down. But there is still more we can do to keep the club's finances in balance so we can achieve more, play more, enjoy more.

Sign up for easyfundraising and the Club benefits every time you shop online with an easyfundraising partner.

Repeat: this costs you nothing - but money comes into the Club when you shop online!
Your InTouch editor signed up one year ago; 20 online shopping transactions over the year have netted £21 for the Club. Imagine if 100 or 500 people were to sign up! (Or if I shopped a bit more!)

That could be thousands of ££ for the Club without any additional cost to you.
