While this is not how I envisioned my first email as FSGA Chair, I’m honored to have been elected by our Board of Directors to serve in this role, even in challenging times.
I recognize that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is putting most of our member businesses in an unprecedented situation and keeping up to speed with what it all means is difficult.
I wanted to share some of my own reflections about the current environment, as well as, the priorities for the Board in the coming weeks.
The outlook may seem daunting at the moment with challenges in how we go about our daily lives and implications for your business, but we have an incredibly talented group of people in our industry and I am convinced that we will come out of this in a strong position.
Maintain a Positive Attitude!
Most of us aren’t wired for isolation and feelings of distress and anxiety may already be taking a toll. Advice to limit how much news and social media you ingest, as well as, getting enough sleep and proper nutrition might typically fall on deaf ears. But I implore you to be mindful of your whole health. We are fortunate to be in an industry that is fiercely competitive while also welcoming. Human interaction is incredibly important and that’s why we’ve created a Slack channel, #covid-19-convo, for all members to be able to discuss all things “how-to-manage-my-business-through-a-global-pandemic” with others in the same situation. I’ve asked industry veteran Rick Wolf to help kick things off as we are looking at including video conference options and potentially host fantasy football/baseball drafts. Stay tuned for more details next week.
Many of you have reached out to ask about our plans for the Summer Conference, scheduled for June 15-16 in Dallas-Frisco, Texas. FSGA leadership and staff are working diligently to find the best solution for our membership. Currently, the FSGA Summer Conference is still scheduled to take place as scheduled. However, due to developments related to COVID-19, we are working on contingency plans and will notify you of any updates as soon as we have them. Please be patient with us as we coordinate with the hotel and be confident in knowing that our association management company, AMPED, has extensive experience in negotiating with hotels and running events. I’m meeting with them daily and they will represent our interests well.
Resources for Financial Aid, Loans and More
A big thank you to Brandon Loeschner, Digger Turnbull and Chad Millman for helping to track down important financial information and other COVID-19 resources for our membership. While the FSGA can’t give specific advice, we believe we can and should be a resource to help provide helpful information. Our COVID-19 Resources page is live and we will be updating as information becomes available, including information from government and public health agencies.
Webinars Coming Soon
I’m always struck by people who raise their hand to help in times of need/crisis, and I’m grateful to those who want to host webinars to help our members navigate through this unprecedented time. We plan to host our first webinar next week with topics such as:
How should I be planning to manage my business over the next few months?
How to manage when sports return?
What can we do in the meantime?
Please make sure to sign up and join us on Thursday, April 2 at 1 p.m. ET for our first in a series of webinars. Other topics will include data privacy and security advice for teleworking.
As things continue to evolve rapidly, know that we are committed to keeping you updated on new developments that could impact your business.
Wishing you good health,
