Recent Field Study Trips We Funded
Helix Charter High School visits the San Diego Zoo
Here is what one teacher had to say: “My students had an exceptional field trip to the zoo thanks to this incredibly generous grant. They were able to interact with animals and take photos of animals up close. The students chose the specific animals they were interested in focusing their art projects on before our field trip and it was great luck that we were able to view all of those animals. A fun aspect of the trip, which surprised me, was how the students reacted to the reptile house. It was magical to watch them as they studied the pictures on the display, and then searched the enclosure until they found each of the reptiles. Each and every reptile sighting was a victory and the students would then do their best impression of the reptile they found. It was such a joyous day filled with laughter and inspiration for the students!"
ABX Donors Join 1000 Students to See Diana
ArtsBusXpress donors and board members came to see for themselves the value of funding field trips to the arts. They joined 1000 students to see "Diana" at the La Jolla Playhouse. “It was amazing,” said everyone including Caryl Lees Witte, Loreen Collins, Mimi Lee, Kevin Zirbel, Patty Smith, Steve Balaban, Lisa Wilson, and David Smith.
After the play, many of the actors returned to talk to the students and answer their questions about preparation, rehearsals, production, and performance.
El Camino High's Sharon Strong had this to say after seeing Diana...
My students and I were as high as the clouds after seeing “Diana” at the La Jolla Playhouse. As a measurement of how positive I found the experience, I often use the energy barometer. Did I leave the field trip with more energy than I began the day? Needless to say, my students and I were as high as a kite from the experience.
Here are a few insightful comments that I gleaned from their letters:
“I didn’t know what to expect, but it was amazing and exceeded my expectations. I would watch this all over again” – Timothy
“The show was equally scandalous, eccentric, and educational. I loved how “Diana” uses the simple elements of storytelling – archetypes like the mentor and the protagonist to create something complex. The hero quest was present too.” - Mycah
“What I learned from this play is that Princess Diana was not only a royal but an empowering, barrier-breaking person.” - Aaliyah
My students and I will be talking about this field trip for a long time. This experience gave us a moment to bond. We will forever share this experience together. Thank you, ArtsBusXpress, for helping make this happen for my students.

ArtsBusXpress is grateful for all of our donors who help us provide much-needed funding for teachers to be able to take their students to the many arts and science venues across the County.
Demand for funding was up again this year as over 8,000 students have already benefitted from ArtsBusXpress support this year.
