TAEG constitutes National Vetting Committee for EurGeol title applications
EFG’s Turkish member TAEG, the Turkish Association of Economic Geologists, successfully applied to establish a National Vetting Committee (NVC) for European Geologist title applications. This new status allows TAEG members to apply for the European Geologist (EurGeol) title directly through their association.
The EurGeol title is a professional title created by the European Federation of Geologists which recognises the ability to deliver a high quality of services within the practice of geology. EurGeol title holders also undertake continuing education and training activities, thus demonstrating their personal commitment to stay up to date and informed within the sphere of their professional work.

European Committee of the Regions on Natural Disaster: a sense of priorities shared by EFG
EFG attended on the 23 March the 122nd Committee of the Regions (COR) plenary session. During the session, the Action Plan on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 was subject to debate, as well as the more general work of the COR on Natural Hazards. The debates were particularly interesting and all highlighted the consensus on the importance of greater and closer collaboration inside of Europe for better prevention and intervention in case of Disaster. Many comments made during the debate echoed sentiments shared by the EFG and proved the relevance of both COR and EFG’s work.

EurGeol of the month: Anthony Cooper

Each month we ask one of the European Geologist title holders to tell us about his professional experiences and which role the title has played for his career. This month we talked to Dr Anthony Cooper, member of the Geological Society of London (GSL). After his PhD, Anthony Cooper started work as a geological surveyor with the British Geological Survey (BGS) and continued that for 38 years becoming more interested in geological hazards as he progressed. After “retiring” he moved into independent consulting, but remains attached to the BGS as an honorary research associate.
