Welcome to GeoNews February...

...This month we are glad to invite you to Hungary, the second destination of our travel across Europe. In the new One Day in Europe feature we visit EFG’s Hungarian membership association, the Geological Society of Hungary, one of the oldest scientific societies in Europe that has always had very close links with EFG.
We also invite you to participate in the 2016 edition of the EAGE/EFG photo contest. Submit your ‘Geoscientists at work’ photos before 14 March and win great prizes!

News from EFG & its members

EFG projects | Launch of INTRAW Reference country reports
The EU-funded INTRAW project has been formulated with the aim of mapping best practices and boosting cooperation opportunities related to raw materials between the EU and five technologically advanced non-EU countries (Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa and the United States). Each of these five “Reference Countries” is subject to similar global challenges and the project consortium now officially launches a set of reports analysing the contextual environment of these countries. The reports present the countries’ historical economic development during the 20th and 21st century in general, and in relation to primary raw materials management in particular. This analysis provides a solid basis for the forthcoming cross-impact analysis of the raw materials domains between the Reference countries and the EU. For more information please read the pressrelease or view directly the country reports at http:/

One Day in Europe

One Day in Europe is a new feature of GeoNews. Each month we visit one of EFG’s national membership associations and discover their main activities and challenges. In February we travelled to Hungary. The Hungarian Geological Society (MFT) is among the oldest scientific societies in Europe: it was established in 1848. MFT currently represents a total of 1214 members. Since the establishment of EFG, MFT always had very strong links with its European partner and is involved in many of the Federation’s core activities. EFG’s current External Relations Officer Tamás Hámor answered our questions. Read more
