EFG puts its quality stamp on top training courses
The concept of Continuing Professional Development is very close to EFG’s heart, and one of its essential missions. Among the many actions taken to push European Geologists to continue bettering themselves, EFG offers a free service, the training course endorsement programme, which benefits both course providers and EurGeol title holders. Course providers, on one hand, have the opportunity to gain recognition and visibility inside of EFG’s large family of European Geologists. European Geologist title holders, on the other hand, are made aware of valuable training opportunities and are provided with a discount. Learn more about this initiative here and about our two latest endorsed training courses:
– Workshop “From Exploration to Feasibility – Best Practice Methods in Sampling, Quality Control and Evaluation”, Lennestadt-Meggen, Germany, 13 September 2017
– Volcanoes’ Night, all over Europe, 29 September 2017

One day in Europe

Each month we travel to one of EFG’s national membership associations and discover their main activities and challenges. In August we visited Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian Geological Society (BGS) was founded in 1925 as a voluntary non-profit association that unites the people of Bulgaria engaged in the field of geology. Its mission and goals are to contribute to the geological studies and protection of the geological heritage of Bulgaria, to promote the contributions of its members and of national geology, to promote the prestige of the geological profession and protect the professional interests of geoscientists of different generations.

EFG delegate Eugenia Tarassova answered our questions. Read more

VOLCANOES’ NIGHT was a Marie Curie Sklodowska Researchers’ Night project series running from 2012 to 2015 under three consecutive contracts funded by the European Commission. The aim of VOLCANOES’ NIGHT was to use volcanoes as a background against which the role of geoscientists could be explained to the public. EC funding for VOLCANOES’ NIGHT ended on 1 December 2015. The project is currently in a 5-year exploitation phase, during which the aim of the Project Coordinator is to maintain information services, promote the organisation of similar events, and widely disseminate the scientific achievements of this project. To safeguard the original non-commercial, non-partisan spirit of VOLCANOES’ NIGHT, the organisers are now converting the project into a flexible and inclusive scheme in which any organisation can participate. The aim is to encourage research teams, universities, municipalities, museums and geoscientists to join the initiative and organise their own VOLCANOES’ NIGHT on 29 September 2017.
How to get involved?
Download the 1-page Information Leaflet or go directly to Your Volcanoes’ Night for more details. Make sure you also check the Frequently Asked Questions section then get in touch with the Project Coordinator using the Contact Form of the project website or via direct e-mail: or
