INTRAW takes you back to the Future
The H2020-funded INTRAW project aims at establishing a long-term collaboration between the EU and other technologically advanced countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa and the United States and, together, to share knowledge that will be used as a baseline to launch the International Raw Materials Observatory as a definitive raw materials knowledge management infrastructure, on 7 November 2017. The Observatory will work on the future of Europe, supported by a sustainable use of its resources and, today, INTRAW has already come up with 3 scenarios for the state of raw materials management in the EU in the year 2050.

EFG projects | ¡VAMOS! Market Survey
As part of its efforts to extract more raw materials within the EU, the European Commission has funded the ¡VAMOS! project to design and build a novel underwater mining excavation system for flooded inland open-cut mines.
As the project approaches the site-testing and post-trial analysis phase, the consortium would like to ask experts in the mining industry for their impression of the concept and its applicability. Following this link, you will have access to an anonymous 5-minute ¡VAMOS! Market Survey, where you will be able to send your feedback as well as register your interest in an upcoming open-day.

EFG projects | Press release: Joint Efforts to Strengthen Geothermal Energy
Geothermal heat is a promising source to enrich and significantly contribute to the renewable energy mix in a long-term perspective. To foster the use of geothermal energy in a secure, clean and efficient way, the European Commission (EC) supports twelve projects within the Horizon 2020 Programme (H2020) and pursues one project of the former 7th Framework Programme (FP7). This brings together almost 20 countries and numerous stakeholders, providing a wide range of knowledge and expertise to strengthen the use of geothermal energy. In a joint effort, these H2020 funded projects provide information on their work in a common press release.

VOLCANOES’ NIGHT was a Marie Curie Sklodowska Researchers’ Night project series running from 2012 to 2015 under three consecutive contracts funded by the European Commission. The aim of VOLCANOES’ NIGHT was to use volcanoes as a background against which the role of geoscientists could be explained to the public. EC funding for VOLCANOES’ NIGHT ended on 1 December 2015. The project is currently in a 5-year exploitation phase, during which the aim of the Project Coordinator is to maintain information services, promote the organisation of similar events, and widely disseminate the scientific achievements of this project. To safeguard the original non-commercial, non-partisan spirit of VOLCANOES’ NIGHT, the organisers are now converting the project into a flexible and inclusive scheme in which any organisation can participate. The aim is to encourage research teams, universities, municipalities, museums and geoscientists to join the initiative and organise their own VOLCANOES’ NIGHT on 29 September 2017.
How to get involved?
Download the 1-page Information Leaflet or go directly to Your Volcanoes’ Night for more details. Make sure you also check the Frequently Asked Questions section then get in touch with the Project Coordinator using the Contact Form of the project website or via direct e-mail: or
