EuroWorkshop Geothermal Energy: Updated programme and speaker information available
The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) and the Association of Greek Geologists (AGG) will coorganise the first EuroWorkshop on geothermal energy in Fira on the island of Santorini (Greece) on 18 and 19 May 2017. EuroWorkshops are a new form of professional training that EFG proposes to European Geologist title holders and other geoscientists. This new type of training activity intends to intensify the professional exchange of ideas and the contacts between geologists from all over Europe and also to strengthen the European idea within the family of geoscientists.
The aim of this EuroWorkshop is to provide a glimpse to the future of geothermal energy, facilitating cross-fertilisation between different scientific areas and contributing to bringing society a step closer to reaching the goal of zero CO2 emissions.
Note that the deadline for early bird registrations has been extended until 30 April.

EFG projects | KINDRA project has launched the European Inventory of Groundwater Research

On 24 April 2017, the EU funded KINDRA project has officially launched the European Inventory for Groundwater Research (EIGR) to the public. Based on a unique classification system, the Inventory allows to showcase research to other professionals working in the water sector. It allows for the inclusion of a wide range of information sources, ranging from scientific papers, hydrogeological maps, technical reports, book chapters to position papers.

EFG projects | INTRAW operational reports

The INTRAW consortium has recently launched three operational reports providing insights on best practices and weaknesses of raw materials research & innovationeducation & outreach and industry & trade in the project’s five Reference Countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa and the United States of America.
The findings of these operational reports also contribute to the design of the International Observatory on Raw Materials that is to be launched by the end of 2017. The Observatory will be a permanent international body that will remain operational after the end of the project, aiming at the establishment and maintenance of strong long-term relationships with the world’s key players in raw materials technology and scientific developments.
The operational reports and their summaries are available through the project website at http://intraw.eu/publications/. We also invite you to follow the project’s seven-weeks-long social media campaign that provides further insights into the operational reports on FacebookTwitter and Linkedin.

 | CHPM2030 consortium meeting

The third CHPM2030 consortium meeting was held in Keyworth, Nottingham, on 28-29 March. During the two days, representatives of the project partners from different European countries discussed the latest updates on their work. They also planned the future steps that ought to be taken to guarantee the development of the project that aims at converting ultra-deep metallic mineral formations into an orebody-Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) in order to satisfy European needs for energy and strategic metals in a single interlinked process.

ON THE ROCKS: the first geological video contest for everybody
The Italian Geological Society (SGI) has launched a video contest dedicated to a broad audience of “geologists” - from students, to scientists, professionals to amateurs. The idea is to share our “passion” for the Earth across disciplines, education and countries.
Submit a 180 second, creative, informal video explaining your research, passions or new ideas regarding the Earth. There are three entry categories and a prize of up to 1000 Euro to be won.
Passionate contributions utilising tools such as animations, stop-motions, cartoons, time-laps, interviews, music, poems or dance, to demonstrate geological ideas to non-specialists, are welcome.
Video's should focus on the wonders, dangers and surprises of an adventurous, geological journey, which could take place indoors, outdoors, in a lab, in the mountains, at sea or in outer space.
Deadline for participation: 7 May 2017
