Tas Energy News - State Election Issue
Hi Folks, Welcome to 2018, we're delighted to have hit the ground running in January and to be saving money for our clients for the 11th straight year.
By now those of you who entered into Retail electricity contracts from the 24th of January 2017 onwards, should have received the second of your State Government Energy Rebate Cheque's, via your Retailer. Goanna clients have already received some very welcome quarterly rebates ranging in value from $4,000 up to $400,000. So if you're not sure whether your business qualifies for this, please feel free to call us on 03 6223 7253.
Whilst 2017 saw TasNetworks energy transport Tariffs reduce by an average 21%, 2017 was another shocker year for Wholesale energy markets across the NEM. This can be seen in the pricing history for Tasmanian 2018/19 Financial Year Wholesale contracts below, which over the past 12 months have ranged from 7c/kWh up to 10c/kWh and now bumps along around 9.3c/kWh.
At the time of writing the Tas 2018/19 Wholesale pricing is around 0.8c/kWh above the 8.5c/kWh "Energy Rebate" level set by the State Government in May 2017, suggesting that Wholesale Electricity pricing will remain an election issue for Tasmanians in the lead up to voting day on Saturday 3rd March.
If energy costs are continuing to impact on your business profitability, perhaps its time to upgrade to First Class Energy Cost Management. Our latest multi-site client to sign onto the BI immediately identified annual cost savings of over $160,000 from some very simple changes and is now reaping the benefits on their monthly account. Call us now on 6223 7253 for your in house demonstration of our market leading cloud based and mobile Business Intelligence platform.
On Monday the Tasmanian Small Business Council (TSBC) will release our latest energy report, a review of Tasmania's Wholesale Electricity Market. Copies of the report may be downloaded from the TSBC Website after the media release. Contact TSBC Executive Officer, Robert Mallett on 0408 144 884 for more information.
The Tasmanian Department of Treasury & Finance are also undertaking a Review of the Wholesale Electricity Market Regulatory Pricing Framework, which is the basis by which Hydro Tasmania construct weekly prices.
2018 is a significant year for Tasmanian energy consumers, with TasNetworks undertaking the first combined Distribution and Transmission Revenue Determination. Goanna are delighted to continue our collaboration with the TSBC having been recently commissioned to scrutinise TasNetworks submission to the Australian Energy Regulator, which is likely to top $2.5 billion over the 5 year regulatory period. Our John Devereaux, who is no stranger to network businesses, will be leading this important project and John's contact details are below.
During February my son Matt and I, along with one of my old Primary School buddies, will be exploring the Rajasthan Desert in India, riding Royal Enfield 500cc Motorbikes with Nevermind Adventures. The last time I left the country was over 20 years ago and my previous international destinations have been limited to Maui, Portland Oregon and London, so wish me luck!
Our Managing Director, Tracy White, with local support from John, Russell & Sead, will be the first point of contact until my return on Monday 5th March. Tracy will be looking after Electricity Tenders, Network Tariff Optimisation, Specified Demand setting, the Energy Markets Business Intelligence (BI) Web Portal and Media enquiries. Tracy is contactable on 03 6223 7253, Mobile 0400 448 124 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and our local Tassie team contacts are below.
I look forward to seeing you all upon my return at the Energy Users Association of Australia, Tasmanian Energy Forum "From Apple Isle to Battery of the Nation?". The forum is being held at 2pm on Thursday 8th March 2018 in Hobart. To register go to www.euaa.com.au
