A little update from Ghana

Yefre me Kwasibea

I am called Kwasibea

We are in our second week of language and technical training in Anyinasin, a village close to Kukurantumi, where the Peace Corps hub office is.

All is well! I am learning Twi and Lelemi. Twi is the unofficial national language and Lelemi is spoken by the Buem people in the mountanous Volta Region of Ghana. Happy to have some hint of where I'll be living for two years, now I just need to pass this language training.

I am living with a small family - Maame Rose and her son Stanley.

I'm running out of time to write tonight, but if you’re looking for updates as to what’s happening in my world this newsletter will be a good place to start. This format should serve as a one-stop-shop for project updates, blog links, photography, and the like. I’m a little uncertain as to how often I’ll be able to create an update like this but I’ll be sure to keep you in the loop whenever possible.

My Ypsilanti Exit Interview

“When interesting people leave the area, and I get wind of it, I hunt them down and force them to submit exit interviews.” -Mark Maynard

And I’ll be forever thankful to Mark for asking me to do this interview. Turns out I had a lot to say. LINK

From Michigan to Ghana with Love

Donations have been rolling in since the launch of From Michigan to Ghana with Love a couple months ago. Together we have raised more than $1,500, nearly half of which came from donations made at the farewell party/fundraiser September 26.

Party people also got creative with FLY that night and made little zines for me to take to Ghana and share with my new friends and communities. A zine exchange with FLY will be one of the first project partnerships launched in conjunction with a larger art program through the Michigan to Ghana fund.

Huge thank you to all involved so far, we’re off to a great start.
