Quality of Life Survey

Deadline now extended to Monday, March 25
Win one of ten $50 Amazon vouchers or one worth $150

ASGC’s annual Quality of Life survey gives us a chance to hear from students first-hand about the quality of life issues that are most relevant to their experience at Columbia.

Moreover, it allows graduate students to express their views on important matters related to their studies, ranging from academic policies to health insurance to recent union developments.
The survey’s results serve as the foundation for our advocacy work in the coming semesters, and are our main means of leverage when advocating for policy changes and liaising with the GSAS administration.

Please take the time to fill it in and forward to a colleague: it only takes about 10-15 minutes, and the greater our sample, the better able we are to advocate for changes on behalf of the graduate student body.

All answers are confidential, and in the end you will be offered the option to enter a prize draw for
one of ten Amazon vouchers worth $50, and one worth $150.
The survey is open to both MA and PhD students in GSAS.

Columbia University Student Health Survey
Over the past three weeks, you received an invitation and reminder to complete the electronic survey via email from the American College Health Association (ACHA) titled Columbia University Student Health Survey.  Please take the time to complete the survey as soon as possible. It is important to ensure that the voices of all students are well represented.

Your participation in this study is voluntary will be kept strictly confidential. To thank you for your help with this survey, everyone who completes the survey will be entered to win several prizes, including vouchers to an airline ticket of your choice or gift cards to the Columbia University Bookstore.

UAH Internet Survey
In March of 2018, GSAS informed its PhD students that "students residing in university housing will have internet service paid for by the school." It has come to the attention of ASGC that this commitment has not been fulfilled for all doctoral students. Dean Alonso has informed us that GSAS is working with UAH to install Columbia internet in all buildings within the next 18 months, and that doctoral students will receive free internet service as Columbia internet is installed in their buildings.

Thank you to all who completed the survey. In order to hold UAH accountable and keep track of progress, the Quality of Life Chair will continue to conduct this survey to determine how widespread this issue is, which buildings are affected, and how swiftly the problem is being addressed. Please submit with any issues or updates - for GSAS PhD students in university housing only.

Plenary meetings are on Tuesdays at 6:30pm in 301 Philosophy Hall.
The full calendar will be:
March 26
April 30

ASGC is composed of MA & PhD students from GSAS departments and is the main successor of the Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC). All affiliate departments are encouraged to designate a Department Representative to participate in plenary meetings. Department Representatives vote on ASGC initiatives and policy changes as well as serve as liaisons between their departments and ASGC.

Please reach out to your current Department Representative to discuss matters you would like to see ASGC raise or, if the position is vacant, consider becoming a representative yourself.
