Faculty Mentoring Award and Chinweike Okegbe Service Award

Nominate your outstanding faculty, administrators, and fellow graduate students who make a positive impact on campus!

The Faculty Mentoring Award is presented annually to two faculty of Columbia University to recognize excellence in mentoring PhD students during their graduate careers. This award is presented at GSAS Convocation by the Arts and Sciences Graduate Council President. The award includes a plaque and $500 honorarium, which is funded equally by ASGC and GSAS. Nomination Form

The Chinweike Okegbe Service Award is awarded annually to two senior graduate students and one non-student who have had a lasting impact due to their service to the Department and Columbia University while demonstrating academic excellence. The Chinweike Okegbe Service Awards will be awarded by ASGC on April 30, the final plenary meeting of the year. Nomination Form

John Jay and CUMC Healthcare Survey
ASGC and GSO are circulating a brief healthcare survey to gauge the demand for access to healthcare facilities at the campus where a student's department is not housed—that is, for access to John Jay among CUMC students and for access to CUMC medical services among GSAS students. Please help us get a clear sense of the breadth of interest by filling out this survey, which will take less than two minutes to complete.

Correction from January Plenary on Resident/Nonresident Tax Query
Milica Iličić, current Events Co-Chair, followed up on a tax issue regarding international students that was raised at the January plenary meeting. She would like to clarify that whatever provision she was referred to last year has changed, and now it is explicitly clear that just because one is a non-resident for federal taxes, it doesn't mean they're a non-resident of NYS. The ISSO now has it spelled out on their website:
Apologies from the Executive Board for any confusion.

ASGC is composed of MA & PhD students from GSAS departments and is the main successor of the Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC). All affiliate departments are encouraged to designate a Department Representative to participate in plenary meetings. Department Representatives vote on ASGC initiatives and policy changes as well as serve as liaisons between their departments and ASGC.

Please reach out to your current Department Representative to discuss matters you would like to see ASGC raise or, if the position is vacant, consider becoming a representative yourself.
