Graduate Lounge & Nous Café Survey
We are collecting information regarding the Graduate Lounge and Nous Cafe. Please complete this survey at your earliest convenience:
https://council.gsas.columbia.edu/form/nous-cafe-feedback
We need to collect all results by this Thursday, November 8, (apologies for the short notice).

GSAS SOCIAL SCIENCES SENATOR seat is now open.
To apply/Nominate: please fill in this form
Deadline: Friday, November 9th, 2018.
The Senate is a university-wide policy–making body representing faculty, researchers, students, administration, administrative staff, librarians, and alumni. Senators lead policy change at the highest level of the university. Being a Senator is the opportunity to serve the greater Columbia community, both on campus and beyond.

Please visit our website for more information.

UAH Internet Survey
In March of 2018, GSAS informed its PhD students that "students residing in university housing will have internet service paid for by the school." It has come to the attention of ASGC that this commitment has not been fulfilled for all doctoral students. Dean Alonso has informed us that GSAS is working with UAH to install Columbia internet in all buildings within the next 18 months, and that doctoral students will receive free internet service as Columbia internet is installed in their buildings.

To determine how widespread this issue is, which buildings are affected, and how swiftly the problem is being addressed, the Quality of Life committee of ASGC is conducting a survey—for GSAS PhD students in university housing only. Please complete the survey at your earliest convenience.

Community Service Survey
Please complete our Community Service Survey to help ASGC plan community service events. This is an important part of fulfilling the new ASGC mandate to reach beyond GSAS and serve the broader Columbia and New York community.

The position of COMMUNITY CHAIR remains open on ASGC Executive Board.
To Apply: please fill in this form.
Deadline: Friday, November 9, 2018.
The Community Chair develops and coordinates community involvement events and activities both on and off campus. In addition, steering committee members will also attend 1 weekly plenary meeting, 1 steering committee planning meeting, and 1 meeting with GSAS administration per month.

3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition
Championship: December 7, 2018, 2:30-4:30 p.m.

The 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition showcases the research of Columbia’s doctoral student community. Participants are challenged to share their research clearly and effectively with a broad, non-specialist audience in just three minutes.

3MT helps doctoral students to develop their presentation and communication skills, which are vital for academic conferences and careers both inside and outside of academia. Through the competition, participants also have the opportunity to share their work with the Columbia and local communities by presenting in front of an esteemed panel of University and corporate judges and a diverse audience.

ASGC is composed of MA & PhD students from GSAS departments and is the main successor of the Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC). All affiliate departments are encouraged to designate a Department Representative to participate in plenary meetings. Department Representatives vote on ASGC initiatives and policy changes as well as serve as liaisons between their departments and ASGC.

Please reach out to your current Department Representative to discuss matters you would like to see ASGC raise or, if the position is vacant, consider becoming a representative yourself.
