This is most likely a new hymn for you, but I think you will appreciate the words by St. Louis Marie de Montfort. Today, standing up for the culture of life and defending the truths of our Faith requires courage, but I hope you can take the words of the chorus with you into the battle: I nothing fear with Jesus at my side!

Lesson Plans

Week 1

  1. Score:  PDF download I created following the 1915 Treasury of Catholic Song

  1. Listen & follow along. Sing along when you become familiar with the melody. If you have trouble on Musescore, I posted it on YouTube, but for some unknown reason, it crunched up the text; I apologize!

    1. First verse:

      To win my heart with vision bright and fair.
      In vain the world with all its craft has tried.
      Harmless and weak its dazzling weapons are;
      I nothing fear with Jesus at my side,
      I nothing fear with Jesus at my side.

Week 2

  1. Listen & sing along.   You can also sing along with this choir.

    1. Second verse:

      Come all ye proud ones of the earth, array
      Your gathering hosts around me far and wide;
      My heart is calm amid the loud affray.
      I nothing fear with Jesus at my side,
      I nothing fear with Jesus at my side.

  2. Begin copywork & chant illustrations. Try to memorize what you've learned so far.

Week 3

  1. Listen & sing along. Here's a beautiful piano recording (follow along with your printed score, though.)

    1. Third verse:

      Death hath for me no fears; its bitter pains
      Shall never from my King my heart divide;
      Faithful to Him till death my will remains
      I nothing fear with Jesus at my side,
      I nothing fear with Jesus at my side.

  2. Continue memorization.

  3. Finish copywork & illustrations.

  4. Extra activity for children: St. Louis de Montfort coloring page

Week 4

  1. Listen and sing along.

    1. Fourth Verse:

    Though all the terrors of the last dread day
    With earth and Hell together were allied;
    Though Heaven and earth before me fled away
    I nothing fear with Jesus at my side,
    I nothing fear with Jesus at my side.

  2. Teens/Adults: Watch the next installment of On a Sacred Note: Vernacular Novus Ordo or read "21 Things St. Louis de Montfort Said About the Rosary and Marian Devortion"
