Dear Friends of the BMW Foundation,

The 5th World Responsible Leaders Forum will kick off on our home turf in Munich in less than four weeks. Not only will it be our largest event ever, it will also be the first major event held by the the new BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt: In March, the two corporate foundations of BMW Group – the Eberhard von Kuenheim Foundation and the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt – consolidated to pool their strengths and resources.

Entitled “100 Innovations for Change,” the forum is all about the power of the BMW Foundation Responsible Leaders Network. We are expecting participants from 71 countries and from across all cultures, communities, and sectors. They will essentially co-create the program, take ownership for the event, and thus collaboratively generate new possibilities for social and political engagement.

One focus of the forum is on refugees and migration. Tackling this challenge definitely requires cross-border and cross-sector collaboration as well as innovation. Participants will have the opportunity to visit initiatives that use creative approaches to welcome and aid refugees.

Another highlight of the Forum will be the award ceremony of this year's BMW Foundation Responsible Leaders Awards, honoring members of our network for their social commitment. In keeping with the occasion, our newsletter too highlights Responsible Leadership. Enjoy!

Responsible Leadership Events

Transatlantic Core Group

The Transatlantic Core Group, founded in 2015, for the first time met in Germany. A group of Americans and Germans convened in the Brandenburg village of Paretz to talk about the challenges posed by migration and integration. Discussions focused on how to make minorities equal citizens. Here is what the participants had to say.

Generationsbrücke Deutschland

Busy weeks for Generationsbrücke Deutschland and its director, BMW Foundation Responsible Leader Horst Krumbach: The President of the EU Parliament, Martin Schulz, recently paid a visit to the social enterprise that is successfully connecting generations. At the German Day of Foundations in May, we will launch a book about Generationsbrücke Deutschland that is published in cooperation with the renowned Herder Verlag.

4th Global Pro Bono Summit

Together with the Taproot Foundation, we organized the 4th Global Pro Bono Summit in Singapore in March. It's the yearly event of the Global Pro Bono Network, which currently counts 30 member organizations from 15 countries. They match skilled professionals who donate their time and talents to social change organizations. Shalabh Salai, co-founder and director of iVolunteer (India), tells you what being a member of the network means to him.
