The list of 2020 Instructors and Classes is posted on the website.

The Guild School Committee was truly challenged in the selection of classes. All of the proposals were worthy of acceptance. We have many of our favorite instructors returning and four, first-year instructors who have all previously attended school as students. Welcome to Jeanie Anderson, Natalia Frank, Jane Graber and Mariella Vitale. Watch for their profiles in the upcoming CUBE.

NEW! The printed Catalogue of Class Offerings will be in full color!

Minis Make Me Smile
Just thinking about miniatures, makes us smile. Whether making minis, attending a class, shopping at a mini show, browsing a website, scrolling through Instagram, posting on FaceBook, or just looking at our own collection, we smile. Minis bring us joy and at Guild School we get to share that happiness. Our joy magnifies and we smile bigger smiles and smile more often. It's reflexive. It can't be helped.

Just look at the smiling students pictured above, top left, clockwise: Reynold Lowe from Michigan (27 years); Francine Coyon from France (11 years); and two first year students, Damar Schlub from Ohio and Mimi Kotz from Texas.

Pete Acquisto with his silversmithing students: Grace Whitelock, Steve Runo and Joanna Marsland.

Where were you when the lights went out?

Minis, Munchies and More - it was a night to remember. Instructors finished setting up their sales tables. Students were lined up ready to shop. Boom! 8:00 PM. The lights went out. A tree had fallen down and knocked out 4 major power poles on the road to Castine. It didn't stop us. We kept shopping - with our cell phone flashlights!

One student captured the spirit. "When the power went out, after shopping, of course, I went back to our room and sat in the lit hallway. More people came and sat with me and we chatted and laughed so much our sides hurt! I wouldn't have had that special time if the power had stayed on. It all worked out!"
Wrapping Up 2019

The 2019 photos are posted in a slideshow on the website. You can also view them on YouTube or on the Smug Mug site where you can download and print selected photos. Thanks to Lena Kiefhaber (above), our photographer, who captures our week in action.

Thank you for your comments on the green Feedback Form. We take your input seriously. To summarize the most frequent comments:

. Classes and instructors; coordination and organization; improved food; lobster night faster; new dining facility; academy staff friendly and helpful; MMA/Guild School App; airport greeting
Areas to Work on:  Hot entree line too slow; food not always hot; some specific dietary requests; accurate power outage info
Seminars. overwhelmingly positive about early seminars and no open houses
Opening Ceremony. nearly all preferred having it in the dining hall; but acoustics still not great

Plans for Next Year:
Post menu outside; add info to the proposal board; add question on medical form about CPAP and other medical devices needing power; improve communication for Iggy; seating inside for receptions when inclement weather

Change Happens...
Cristina Minischetti passed away from a rare lung disease the first week in June. She was a favorite teacher and a warm, kind soul. We will miss her. Several items at our live auction were designated for a fund to honor Cristina by sending a student to school. We raised $3200.

Carol and Dick Hardy are retiring from teaching. Carol's classes were always full and always challenging. She served on the School Committee and they both were part of the Tool Pool. They helped behind the scenes in so many ways. Dick's been a student and guest at school for 31 years. Carol's been teaching at school for 34 years straight! They deserve a break!

Bonni Backe retired this year from teaching and from miniatures for health reasons. She has also turned over managing the school Facebook page to Pat Richards. Bonni taught and was a student for 20 years. The variety of classes and techniques she offered were always popular. Bonni's humor and creativity were a huge contribution to the spirit of Guild School.

Peter Kendall has retired from teaching. We could always count on Peter teaching an amazing classic interior structure. His new granddaughter and travel have taken priority. Peter says he still wants to come to school as a student. He was a student for 13 years and an instructor for 15 years.

Tony Spencer Instructor Recognition Award

Tony Spencer loved Guild School and was an advanced student in many areas. He recently passed away. His family has set up an instructor recognition program in his honor. This first award was given to Nell Corkin.

Meet and Greet at Bangor Airport

Thanks to Mandi Burt and Laura Gallagher (both pictured), Gloria Ebratt, and Rita Crawford for setting up a welcome table at the Bangor Airport to greet students with a reassuring smile, offer them a bottle of water, steer them in the right direction, share tips and answer questions. They'll be there in 2020 too!
