Snowdrop Weekend

Snowdrops are the centre of attention for a special weekend devoted to these pretty, delicate harbingers of spring - taking place at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on February 4th & 5th.

Galanthophile and horticulture expert Naomi Slade will be our very special guide for this two-day celebration and will lead us on a tour of the Garden’s snowdrop hotspots. She will also give a talk on growing your own plants, their interesting origins and taking a look at using them in the garden. She will also be signing copies of her book, The Plant Lover’s Guide to Snowdrops.

The talks will be held at 11:30am on both days, in Theatr Botanica, with the tours starting from there at 2pm.

A self-led trail around the various snowdrop highlights is also available to visitors in the run-up to the weekend event as well as on the 4th and 5th.

And there will be family activities that weekend, too, with lots of snowdrop-related crafts, fun and games for children and families.

Snowdrop Weekend is on from 10am until 4.30pm on both days. All snowdrop-related activities are included in the Garden admission price.

Entry is FREE for Garden members and parking is FREE for all.

The Garden is open 10am to 4.30pm and last entry is at 3.30pm.

For more information about this or other events, visit our website, call 01558 667149 or email info@gardenofwales.org.uk

* Look out for Naomi talking about snowdrops on Gardeners’ World when it starts again in March. She is also frequently heard on radio and she contributes regularly to many national newspapers and magazines, including The Guardian, The Telegraph, Kitchen Garden Magazine, House and Garden and the official organ of the Royal Horticultural Society, The Garden.

Star Party

On Friday, February 3rd, the Swansea Astronomical Society are hosting the latest National Botanic Garden of Wales stargazing event from 6pm- 9pm.

All the action, including a talk, takes place in and around the Great Glasshouse and, given clear skies, you could see our ‘nearest’ neighbours, the Andromeda Galaxy and our own Moon.  The latter will be nearly half-full and should offer us some fantastic views of the craters around the terminator (the twilight zone on the Moon between ‘day’ and ‘night’).

There will be a talk on the subject of Sun, How to safely observe it, Sun-Spots, etc., by Brian Spinks of the Swansea Astronomical Society. This should offer an excellent introduction to some of the Astronomy Activities planned for the February half-term.

We will be showing a variety of Telescopes and Binoculars, including those suitable for youngsters and beginners.  So an excellent opportunity to see and discuss for yourself what you might buy. And bring your own ‘scopes as well – especially if you want help and advice as to how to use them.

The talk starts around 7pm and will be repeated later as required.

Access is via the ‘Corporate’ or ‘back’ entrance and admission is £3 for adults with under 16s free. There will be refreshment available.

Doggy Day

This coming Monday will again see the Garden welcoming visitors and their four-legged-friends.

Dogs must be kept on a non-extendable lead at all times and, due to the rare and valuable plants and butterflies, are not permitted into the Butterfly House.

Due to popular demand the Garden has monthly Doggy Weekends planned for the upcoming months, with February's being held on the 10th & 11th .

Don't forget, through the winter season - every Monday is Doggy Day!

Welly Wednesday

Welly Wednesday features an hour of fun, outdoor activities, storytelling and exploring for pre-schoolers and is a great way for parents to get their toddlers close to nature with 60 minutes of fun in the woods with water and mud - whatever the weather!

Activities start at 11am from the Gatehouse, normal entry price applies to adults and children under 5 years old are free.

For more information, contact the Education Department on 01558 667150.

Penwythnos y Lili Wen Fach

Daw’r awdur Naomi Slade sy’n arbenigwraig ar eirlysiau i rannu cyfrinachau’r blodyn hyfryd hwn.

Bydd eirlysiau yn dwyn y sylw i gyd ar benwythnos arbennig sydd yn canolbwyntio ar y blodyn pert, meindlws hwn sy’n gennad i’r gwanwyn – i’w gynnal yng Ngardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru ar Chwefror 4ydd & 5ed.

Bydd yr arbenigwraig garddwriaethol, Naomi Slade, yn arwain y dathliad dau ddiwrnod, ac yn ein tywys ar daith o amgylch prif leoliadau’r eirlysiau yn yr Ardd. Bydd hi hefyd yn rhoi sgwrs ar dyfu a gofalu am blanhigion eich hun, eu tarddiad diddorol ac yn edrych ar sut i’w defnyddio yn yr ardd. Mi fydd hi hefyd yn llofnodi copïau o’i llyfr, ‘The Plant Lover’s Guide to Snowdrops’.

Bydd y sgwrs yn cael ei gynnal am 11:30yb ar y ddau ddiwrnod, yn Theatr Botanica gyda’r daith tywys yn dechrau yna am 2yp.

Mae llwybr hunan-arweiniol o amgylch y prif leoliadau i weld yr eirlys ar gael i ymwelwyr yn y cyfnod sy’n arwain at y digwyddiad hwn, a hefyd ar y 4ydd a’r 5ed.

Bydd gweithgareddau i’r teulu hefyd ar gael yn ystod y penwythnos, gyda llawer o grefftau’n ymwneud â’r eirlys, a hwyl a gemau i blant a’u teuluoedd.

Mae Penwythnos yr Lili Wen Fach ymlaen o 10yb hyd at 4:30yp ar y ddau ddiwrnod. Mae pob gweithgaredd sy’n ymwneud â’r eirlys wedi’u cynnwys ym mhris mynediad yr Ardd.

Mae mynediad AM DDIM i aelodau’r Ardd, ac mae parcio AM DDIM i bawb.

Mae’r Ardd ar agor o 10yb hyd at 4.30yp, gyda’r mynediad olaf am 3.30yp.

Am fwy o wybodaeth am hwn a digwyddiadau eraill, ewch i'n gwefan, ffoniwch 01558 667149 neu e-bostiwch info@gardenofwales.org.uk

* Mae Naomi yn westai radio rheolaidd, ac yn cyfrannu’n aml i nifer o bapurau newydd a chylchgronau cenedlaethol, gan gynnwys, The Guardian, The Telegraph, Kitchen Garden Magazine, House and Garden, a chylchgrawn swyddogol y Gymdeithas Arddwriaethol Frenhinol,
The Garden.

Parti'r Sêr

Ar Ddydd Gwener, Chwefror 3ydd bydd Cymdeithas Seryddiaeth Abertawe yn cynnal ei digwyddiad o syllu ar y sêr diweddaraf yng Ngardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru o 6yh-9yh.

Bydd popeth, yn cynnwys y sgwrs, yn cael eu cynnal yn y Tŷ Gwydr Mawr ac, gydag awyr clir, fe gewch chi weld ein cymdogion agosaf, yr Alaeth Andromeda a’r Lleuad.  Bydd y lleuad bron yn hanner llawn a ddylai cynnig golygfa arbennig o’r ceudyllau o gwmpas y terfynydd (yr ardal cyfnos ar y Lleuad rhwng y ‘diwrnod’ a’r ‘nos’).

Bydd yna sgwrs ar yr Haul a sut i’w wylio’n ddiogel, brychau haul ayyb gan Brian Spinks o Gymdeithas Seryddiaeth Abertawe.  Dylai hyn cynnig cyflwyniad ardderchog i’r Gweithgareddau Seryddiaeth ar y gweill am hanner tymor mis Chwefror.

Mi fyddwn yn dangos amrywiaeth o Delesgopau ac Ysbienddrychau, gan gynnwys rhai sy’n addas i blant ifanc a dechreuwyr.  Dewch â’ch telesgopau gyda chi – yn enwedig os ydych am dderbyn unrhyw gymorth ar sut i’w defnyddio.

Mae’r sgwrs yn dechrau am 7yh ac yn cael ei ailadrodd yn hwyrach fel y mynnir.

Bydd mynediad trwy’r fynedfa Gorfforaethol ac yn £3 y person, gyda phlant o dan 16 mlwydd oed am ddim.  Bydd lluniaeth ar gael.

Diwrnod i Chi a'r Ci

Bydd y Dydd Llun sydd ar ddod yn gweld yr Ardd yn croesawu ymwelwyr a'u cŵn unwaith eto.

Rhaid i gŵn fod ar dennyn di-estynadwy trwy'r amser, ac oherwydd y planhigion a philipalod prin a gwerthfawr, ni chaniateir cŵn tu fewn i Blas Pilipala.

Yn dilyn galw mawr, mae dyddiadau arbennig wedi’u neilltuo yng nghalendr perchnogion cŵn ar gyfer Penwythnosau i Chi a'r Ci yn yr Ardd, gyda'r un ym mis Chwefror ar yr 11fed & 12fed.

Peidiwch ag anghofio, trwy gydol tymor y gaeaf - mae pob Dydd Llun yn Ddiwrnod i Chi a'r Ci!

Mercher Mwdlyd

Mae Dydd Mercher Mwdlyd yn cynnwys awr o hwyl a sbri, gweithgareddau yn yr awyr agored, adrodd straeon ac archwilio ar gyfer plant bach o dan oed ysgol, ac yn gyfle arbennig i rieni fynd â'u plantos yn agos at natur yn y dŵr a'r mwd - byth bynnag fo'r tywydd!

Mae'r gweithgareddau yn dechrau o'r Porthdy, mae yna dâl mynediad arferol i oedolion ac mae plant o dan 5 mlwydd oed am ddim.

Am fwy o wybodaeth, cysylltwch â'r Adran Addysg ar 01558 667150.
