Congratulations to all the competitors who made the trip to BSS last Sunday for the QLA River Titles. The 26 boat fleet was treated to beautiful sailing conditions with a 10 -12nt easterly building into a stiff 15-18knt breeze by the third race. Three two-lap windward/leeward races were held in the Hamilton reach in a high tide with a mild ebb tide current that grew progressively through the afternoon.

It was good to see competitors from a broad cross-section of clubs with competitors from Maroochy Sailing Club, Humpybong, South Brisbane, RQYS and BSS testing their skills in the river conditions.

In the Radials Mark Kennedy from Maroochy in Tassie Expresswon convincingly with three straight bullets. In second place and first women was Lyndall Patterson sailing The Dellwhile the evergreen Kerry Waraker in Quadelle completed the podium.

The Standard rigs were won by Dan Self in Sail27who scored three wins. Dan was using these River Titles as a key tune-up event up for his upcoming tilt at Sail Sydney, Sail Melbourne and the Australian Championships. In the competition for the minor placings Andrew Stransky Mantra took second from Goldfish skippered by Michael Wilson in third.

A member of the Queensland Academy of Sport, he has lofty goals of representing Australia in the Olympic Games. The "incredible depth of talent make Tokyo 2020 a real stretch target but I am in for the long haul and believe with enough sweat I can represent Australia at Paris in 2024" Dan said.  We wish him all the best for the upcoming Summer of Sailing and if you want to help him reach his goal - make sure you purchase your sailing gear from Sail27!

The Oceania and Australian Laser Championships will be held from 1st to 8th January. On belhalf of the Tasmanian Laser Association the event will be hosted by the Mersey Yacht Club in Devonport.

One of the great aspects of being part of the Laser family, is being able to travel with the minimum amount of gear and still be just as competitive. Something most other classes are not able to provide. Here’s some ideas on how easy this can be.

The QLA is supportive of our members attending regattas and wishes to encourage our members to compete in higher level regattas by providing monetary support where the sailors meet the criteria set out in the QLA Travel Support Policy. QLA members are encouraged to apply for The Grant.
