A Growing Infrastructure

July 2019

As NocTel grows, backend maintenance and infrastructure growth are essential tasks that our team performs to keep our platform running smoothly and efficiently. It is usually a task that goes unseen by our users as the team works to make improvements to system stability and reliance on our servers based around the world behind the scenes.

Currently, our team is working on expanding our infrastructure to provide a more resilient foundation for our existing and future customers. These improvements also help to future proof NocTel by providing (physical) room to grow facilities, better geographic placement to customers across the nation and globally, to grow and improve responsiveness in normal operation, and better resiliency in the event a significant impacting incident occurs.

While most of our backend maintenance doesn't affect customers' day to day business, there are occasions when short term service impairments can happen. In those cases, NocTel plans maintenance at a time that will have the least impact on the majority of users. We also post notices to our status page on any upcoming maintenance or impairment incidents that may have a customer impact. You can view the status page at for updates.

We look forward to continuing to grow, improve, and provide our users with a strong communications platform.
Adding New Users

Have a new team member you need to add to your organization's NocTel account? NocTel makes it easy to invite and manage new users! New users can be invited to the account in the control panel and can be given suitable level of access. You can even give user access to just one extension with the normal user option. Check out our how-to article for more details.
End of Life Notice for SoundPoint Devices

Some NocTel users may have seen a new notice in their account if they have logged into the control panel recently. This new notice provides users with a visual reminder that the account contains legacy devices that are reaching their end of life date.

The notice appears on the account's home page and includes a link to view all legacy devices in the account that need to be replaced and a link to our knowledge base that has more information on the end of life devices and how to retire them.

If your account contains a legacy device it will need to be replaced by December 31, 2019 to avoid interrupting your services. As detailed in previous newsletters, they are reaching their manufacturer end of life date. The impact is these devices will no longer receive firmware updates, which commonly address security vulnerabilities. With no new updates once end of life is reached, affected devices effectively pose a security risk that a malicious actor may be able to exploit at some point in the future. This may be an annoyance such as a malicious user racking up a large usage service charge, or at worst, gaining a foothold into your network and moving laterally to highly sensitive hosts and data. Please check your account to see if you have any of the legacy devices listed below and visit our knowledgebase for more info.
